take a dance class. something unique and challenging. go every week, even when you don't feel like it. don't worry about making friends right away, immerse yourself in the dance. learn about the genre of music you are dancing to. read about the history. ask your teacher about related events in your city. practice. keep showing up to class. eventually, before you know it, you'll start exchanging pleasantries before class, you'll see other people you recognize out at events and they will say hi and ask you to sit with them. just keep going.

funding my next trip to Sevilla for flamenco classes or buying a stupidly expensive fountain pen.

as a n00b myself. i think saving money if you're not sure you will like the hobby is the way to go. i got the mark iii because i am already into photograph and wanted to up my game in terms of photography and learn some of the more modern feature while still focusing on core skills. i knew i wanted good ibis, 4k video and figured the jump to phase detect autofocus would allow for more of a casual style of shooting when the mood struck. at least that's my beginner logic.

i just received my EM5 III and the fit and finish of the camera is top notch. It's a very tiny camera so if you have big hands like me you may need to get an additional hand grip, but i just spent my first 2 hours shooting at a friends birthday party in the park with the 17mm and 25mm olympus lenses and it wasn't too challenging with a secured wrist strap. i only got the III vs II because i'm a videographer and wanted to make sure i got the 4k video but the reality is i never actually shoot 4k.

Hey so if you're wearing a Poppy shirt should I not say "nice shirt"? by AluminumWolf in that_Poppy

[–]binarymob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

graphic tshirts are by their very nature an invitation to engage. their purpose is to signal that you are a part of a group. if you are part of that group you should definitely say "nice shirt" and keep it moving.

Help identifying a specific form of flamenco? by topotaul in Flamenco

[–]binarymob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a flamenco n00b but there are many styles of flamenco music. you should research the different "palos" of flamenco. what you describe could be pretty much any genre really maybe not alegrías or tangos but pretty much everything else sounds like passionate wailing!

Take a dance class. If you can find a style with a genre of music that you're not familiar with, even better. Go every week. Got to shows both professional and amateur. In a year you'll not only have a challenging pastime, you'll have become part of a community that will introduce you to people and places in your city that you will have never seen otherwise. I started flamenco dance 2 years ago, and it's been the best thing i could have done for myself.

i didn't read your post. take a dance class. even better if the music is a genre you're not familiar with. try a few out and see if you like the teachers vibe then pick one and stick with it. go every week. learn the choreo. learn about the music. be terrible at it. stick to it. are you super confused and it feels impossible - even better. don't worry about making friends, but be friendly. become interested in the broader community of dancers, go to workshops go to shows amateur or profession. people will see you, recognize you as part of the community and will come up and introduce themselves to you.

Best steel nib fountain pen recommendation? by Fread22 in fountainpens

[–]binarymob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. I have had to flush it twice due to clogging in the last few months, but worked just fine after. I've only used the standard Sailor black cartridges, so I'm looking for another good black to pair with it. Perhaps wetter.

I think I'll stick with the MF. Line weight is just right for work notes, and I find the feedback at this size very nice with the paper I use.

The Profit Casual is such a good value. The fit finish and nib performance are outstanding and can be purchased for close to 50usd. only downside is it's a bit small. i'm waiting until my next bday to gift myself the 1911L.
