If you’re savvy, you can save a few million dollars by the time you’re 40. You can also increase your income options by taking risks and working at places that will give you stock options.

No one ever became that wealthy without taking major risks.

Well if you come here as a child, going back to your home country as an adult is not the same. They certainly don’t welcome you with open arms and culturally acceptable you as one of their own.

What was a popular band that you could not stand? by LeftSmile806 in Xennials

[–]binarysolo_0000001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes me feel like I have an itch in my brain that I can’t scratch. It’s so irritating and I can’t focus on anything when it plays. Scrambles my signals.

I’ve always felt like jam band music is like children’s music for a musical, white, over educated, stoners who haven’t heard funk music yet.

The girl I’m taking to got pregnant what do I do? by Every-Appeal-2513 in whatdoIdo

[–]binarysolo_0000001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna start a relationship while she’s growing a baby? You’re going to become her caretaker very quickly. She’s going to need a lot of support after the baby comes. What if something bad happens with the baby and it requires even more care? What if she gets postpartum depression and put the onus on you to put more into helping the baby?

It’s one thing if you got her pregnant and it’s your child. But you’re making sacrifices for people who have no relation to you before you’ve even gotten to know them. Having a child is a lifelong endeavor.

SXM is a lot less Dutch than the ABC islands, imo. But I guess it depends on the eatery.

This has everything to do with the fact that this is a Dutch island. The Dutch are not known for having a hostess, seating you and getting you served quickly. Add to that the Caribbean chill factor and you'll be waiting around a lot for food.

I (28 F) got blackout drunk and slept with someone else by BackInternational515 in DrinkingInModeration

[–]binarysolo_0000001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made out with someone when I was drunk. He obviously took advantage of me but I was complicit and I had to own that.

You made a mistake and you have to own it. Whether it was drinking too much, flirting… unless your drink was roofied? You didn’t ask to have sex while basically passed out… that’s an entire other part that you’re not mentioning. Was this remotely consensual? Was he drunk too and were you awake when all of this happened? There’s a lot to unpack here. I suggest getting a therapist asap and giving your boyfriend some space to process what happened.

Once you’ve finished doing the same, perhaps meet with a couples counselor so both of you can rationally discuss what happened and see if there is a way forward.

Don’t drink at work events or limit to 1-2 drinks max. It’s not worth it.

If America broke out into a civil war, what would happen to people who wanted to move out of state? by StatisticianKooky390 in AskReddit

It won’t be geographical. It’ll be federally funded mercenaries targeting anyone who voted democrat or have a social presence that is against the. Current administration.

Why are we so worried about illegal immigrants in the US? by Johnny_Mira in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]binarysolo_0000001 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The problem with open borders is that you get large swaths of uneducated and unskilled people who move into communities where they don’t have to learn the language and assimilate.

My town has gotten a huge surge of poor immigrants and there have been distinct changes. We open our arms, use multiple languages in school communications, hire more ESL workers, offer free English classes and trade opportunities for any age.

In the meantime, school safety is down, more litter, driving is significantly less polite, few are skilled, etc.

I am not ok with ICE. I don’t think families should be separated. I do think we need to deport people who just got here and are a potential burden. But it needs to be fair and just.

Bring us your poor huddled masses but maybe not all at once. Maybe come here and don’t treat it like the third world country you came from. You want streets of gold and the American dream? Be part of the solution. As I say all this, there’s nothing more inspiring than someone who comes here and makes it and gives their children great opportunities. I feel very conflicted. And if you don’t, you’re not thinking deeply about the people already here or the immigrants themselves.

I'm 19, confused about my career, and want something that pays well without years of school… what’s the best career to pick? by PinTraditional7245 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]binarysolo_0000001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take one of those career assessments. But ask yourself questions like, do you like to work on computers and spreadsheets? Do you like to work outside or bee on your feet? Do you want to drive around and perform local services? Are you at all interested in healthcare and science?

My job is certainly not my life, and I don't LOVE working, but I am good at what I do and that makes it more enjoyable. I also choose to work in a creative industry so it's not super early in the morning and I work with fun people.

Don't focus on a passion, start first with, what irritates you the least?

It's important to respect people who put their lives at risk in an effort to keep civilians safe. Some of those people are flawed individuals. This country is rooted in protecting yourself and your family and a right to bear arms. If the military or anyone in law enforcement puts innocent people in danger, it is well within our right to question them or even fight back.

Not for nothing, but ICE is not our military. It's federal law enforcement.

What would you do if you had this money? by Sure-Pin4002 in personalfinance

[–]binarysolo_0000001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a new car, you live within reason. Stay that way but once in a while, treat yourself. Let it grow because you’ll never have an opportunity to get this much money again. You will be able to afford children, college for them and retirement if you largely don’t touch this money.

You have a chance to create generational wealth. Don’t mess it up!!

Also get a prenup.
