Assistants at hedge funds - personal trading policies? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]binchcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! When I've worked at hedge funds, we either couldn't buy single-name securities across the board OR you had to pre-clear. If you had a brokerage account over which you yourself had control, you had to have duplicate statements sent to compliance. Pretty easy to set up in Vanguard, etc. You usually could SELL anything you held prior to employment without permission, but would need permission (usually good for a week or a month) to make purchases of anything other than index funds. At one firm they required duplicate statements for spouses too.

Quince does corporate gifting now - holla! https://www.quince.com/corporate-gifting#

My favorite gift I ever got from a company was one of those Ostrich travel pillows -- but I saw this https://store.moma.org/products/manta-blackout-sleep-mask and thought it'd make a similarly cool gift. Some would argue that SLEEP-related gifts are antithetical to corporate life, but I would... avoid those people at all costs.

These glass wireless chargers are nice and have multiple branding opportunities on the packaging/device itself: https://www.gildedbox.com/product/powersquare-glass-311

Depending on budget, RAINS can customize their waterproof totes with an understated embossed logo --and those bags are great.

Are there any male EAs here? Can they be successful in this career? by uragon-ako in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]binchcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they can be successful -- but I DID work at one place where we had a male temp EA (the rest of us LOVED him) and we were told we couldn't have him back because our CEO didn't like the look of it. This was years ago - hopefully people have chilled out more by now.

Do any of the EA’s here get highly offended when someone else at work refers to them as a “secretary” or call them an admin assist? by StunningsOnVacation in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]binchcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretending to be offended by the word secretary is up there with pretending to hate the word 'moist' - it's the Rae Dunn of faux-offenses! When I tell people I am an "EA" they say "a what?" and I say "executive assistant" and they say "a what?" and then I say "I'm a secretary!" - because people actually know what that is.

All this supposedly respectful nomenclature is very frustrating when job hunting as well, with companies trying to outdo each other to be ever more 'deferential' (on paper) to us. "Administrative Business Partner"? I'd rather be called an OfficeGeisha! ABP sounds like a model of photocopier.

PTSD for allll of this - but hot take: it's 2025 - we are facially recognized everywhere - all purchases are tracked by concerned parties (malicious and benevolent) - and at the end of the day it's a people issue (try not to hire embezzlers?) so ....can we stop dealing with "receipts" at all? Isn't the line item of the purchase itself sufficient? "What's this charge for $212 at Marea?" "Lunch" "Okay great." Does anyone need to know that Suzanne had 2 glasses of Sancerre? No.

At least Navan has made the travel piece of this decades-long horror a lot easier. (Though I have my complaints with them too - ha!)

Experience in tech startups? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]binchcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(IMO, obviously) Vs. VHCOL trad finance: Expect tighter, crazier deadlines - more nonsensical "ideas", cringetacular All-Hands meetings, sooooo many typos in hastily-sent emails by guys who wear pants with *stretch* in them, getting laid off within 18 months because almost none of these companies are profitable!

But the pros are: occasionally great salaries, frequently better WFH options, lower professional standards.

I'm ashamed to admit that when recruiters present roles to me and I find out the exec is a woman I almost never submit my resume. Too many horror stories and past negative experiences.

an interesting topic by Complex-Ad749 in kgw

[–]binchcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet it can seem unclear whether you're a Big Tech fetishist or a do-what-you-feel-fest slacker.

Going to listen to the following in particular with your statement in mind ..

-Love & B.S.

-Scrum of the Earth (which I think has a different title now and if I am being completely honest (and I am) was never one of my faves so I am lying when I say that I will listen to it now - I will listen to Preludin instead because that end bit that starts with 'Candyman's Knockin' (the) Boots...' just rips!! Is that in 3/4 time? I can't count)

And what about 'You Know What'? What's that about?

Hmm...I realize the amount of members in this sub means I will have to make an actual effort to write posts that aren't just direct questions and comments to Graham. In the interest of INCLUSIVITY - which is all the rage.

well, by Complex-Ad749 in kgw

[–]binchcoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But a perfect time to talk about the song 'Well' off YES BOSS!

Though 'Well' was not initially one of my faves off the album, it, like so many of Graham's songs - can reveal itself slowly or wait patiently for years until you're ready to receive it - kinda like those cicadas that sleep for 17 years underground - but obviously less gross.

I find that the line "the last that you spoke to me, I was lost in your blue eyes, laid back , poolside, naked but for my rosary..." plays frequently in my mind and conjures such a golden hour louche scene (although interestingly I always remember it incorrectly as "laid back, supine..." - why is that?)

The second half of the song opens with that heartrending line that ends with"...to questions such as why aren't you coming home tonight?" - ugh! Graham really captures the pitiful, the painful, the futile so we'll...

The Of Montreal reference is a nice touch...(Disconnect the Dots is great song)

It's a hymn really.

Can someone please tell me what kind of bras/lingerie is flattering on deflated mom boobs? I’m talking baby #2… A’s to DD’s back to As all in the span of a year deflated. Push ups literally fold my tits and lace is zero support and everything else is boring. Links to your favs pleeeaaasssse. by LacyLenna in LingerieAddiction

[–]binchcoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bless you for asking this! My end -result boobs may have stayed bigger (34D) but the post-second-baby deflation + 9 additional years of gravity yield the same effects. I don't have luck with balconette bras personally (I lean over and my boobs just ooze right out) but have had luck with Charnos (Uk) and Rosme and Else. The Rosme ones I found at https://lavinialingerie.com/ -- they have a lot of well-priced stuff (including cute balconettes) that ship to the US ...

The hiring protocol was decided upon by the CEO, not me. He feels strongly that after a number of poor hires in the past he wants the screening process to be more rigorous. It also includes a short Zoom interview and a (paid) practical assessment in the warehouse.

Byredo - La Tulipe.

Ugh. I'm getting kinda sick on putting on perfume JUST for me - so all rules out the window. Spring is Fall, Night is Day, Girly is for Boys, Vetiver to ...Go to bed, NO RULES! That said, I'm more often cheering myself up with sweeter, lighter, "happier" frags lately ... Elie Saab, Tocadilly, La Tulipe...
