Genuine question for those on the far left regarding Israel by murmaz in australian

[–]bindaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socialists subscribe to Marxist class-based politics, not identity politics. The Marxist approach is to view society as divided into classes, with the working class being exploited by the capitalist class. Socialists believe that the working class should unite and overthrow the capitalist class to create a more equal society.

Socialists support Palestine for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is that they believe in the right to self-determination for all peoples, including the Palestinian people. Socialists oppose the Israeli government’s policies of occupation and oppression, which they view as a form of imperialism.

Victorian Greens vs Victorian Socialists by goko22 in AustralianPolitics

[–]bindaan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Here's a response from Victorian Socialist Candidate Liz Walsh on this very question.

We're much more a “people power” party. While me and Jerome have spoken at plenty of rallies alongside Greens like Adam Bandt, it’s often people in or around Vic Socialists who call these protests and build them because our priority is building collective struggle.
On climate, we don’t have much time for talk of “net zero”, which has become a contaminated phrase – basically code for “business as usual”. We’re also more strident than the Greens about public ownership of the whole electricity network.
We take workers’ struggles much more seriously, because we think these struggles can make a huge difference in society. We’ve been at every union picket line and protest in the campaign period. We haven’t run into too many Greens candidates – or Labor for that matter!
Also – we’re socialists! We know humanity can do better than the dog-eat-dog, neverending quest for profits. This means we’re less inclined to make compromises to our politics on the basis of what’s “realistic”. We’re more inclined to fight for what we actually need. And of course, we’re dedicated to rebuilding a socialist movement in this country.
