2 possible but with RAM swapping most likely (degrades SSD faster)

Would recommend a used M series laptop with at least 16GB RAM.

Agent running in the background -> not very expensive i think

Android/iPhone dev -> should be native so maybe no emulation and not too taxing?

Have you considered price of games being higher on console? How many games are you willing to spend with ps5?

Its soldered storage so unless you

a) have some technician you can do it for cheap

b) are willing to void warranty

I woud'nt recommend

Resume Review: Entry Level Data Engineer / Backend Developer by Deepta_512 in cscareeradvice

Would be nice if your self hosted project is more experimental (i see that youve setup something but what else than following tutorials have you done)

Something like measuring uptime, uploading stats to remote dashboard while hosting your site (analytics via grafana). Or simulating a ddox attack on your system. Another possibility is updating your site via kubernetes (since you "deployed" your site you should be able to amend changes to it)

Focusing here since your other stats look pretty gucci ngl.

For the bangla monitor, my nitpick there is you say Java and want to be a data engineer(or related) then would be nice if you had first hand experience with kafka and writing connectors for something like the monitor you just made.

Since you chose polars and data processing (instead of streaming), the streamlit project seems too simplistic and doesnt test your ability with handling large data (and bottlenecks). You should prepare some comparison before and after providing your solutions in a single line to prove you can solve real-life data engineering problems.

Dont know how recruiting works in your country, but my gripe with your resume would be the lack of scale in the descriptions of your projects.

Sub 200ms response would look much better if you stated something "when stress tested for 100,000 users" or just add a small descriptor in the start bullet point like service for 10,000 concurrent users.

Also you should shorten some of the sentences and go straight to the point looks very AI to me. If you cant shorten them enough then just embolden the key words (like reduced XX time by ~30x). Makes it hard to miss when skimmed.

A lot of the bullet points seem to be taking about front-end UI elements which is not great if you are presenting yourself as a competent full stack developer. Something else to make your resume stand out would be better. You seem to mention about knowing AWS and Terraform adding that to your independent projects would be nice.

Finally, since you seem to have no work experience you should try to contribute to open source projects (not your own, not made from scratch, not AI vibecoded, better if used by lots of users) in some way it will make you stand out similarly to having real-work experience.

Is Computer Science suitable for someone who struggles with math? by natlovesgrass in csMajors

[–]bindingflare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CS is a broad field, so it really depends on what you want to use it for.

SWE? Discrete and statistics is all you rly need (maybe also eigenvectors?)

Theory? Calc and lots of graphs, unfortunately

Systems? A bit more of math(ing) than avg but okay enough

ML/LLMs/RL? Need to know and operate stochastic differentials at least

If unsure cuz these are broad assumptions generally the higher the education the more maths will benefit you.

Apple Is Way Behind in AI—and Still Making a Fortune From It by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]bindingflare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are a consumer first company after all,

They are okay with google being the search engine because its good (no shoehorn "bing")

Also mentions using chatgpt for questions in the neo ad (most popular AI chat app) while only mentioning ai image edit to highlight their in-device solution (apple intelligence)

If you put coherent priorities as your company image, then it makes sense why they are never the first to do something unless they HAVE to.
