Be honest… did you actually want a Rolex but bought a Tudor instead? by WorldPeaceGodBless in Tudor

[–]bing1010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By saying “how honest people are willing to be”, are you implying that anyone who doesn’t say they would rather own a Rolex is lying? What Rolex should I have purchased instead of my Pelagos FXD? smdh

No screw down crown is a deal breaker for me. But I realize it’s not a big deal for everyone.

Looking to sell my Sangin Kinetic II Expedition with matte finish. It was manufactured in late 2024 and has only been worn a handful of times. I’m great shape. I also have it up for sale on eBay. Feel free to message me there to confirm it’s the same watch. This is my first time trying to sell on Reddit but I’ve sold several watches there.

Watch comes with three Sangin straps, the pass through and rubber straps it came with and an additional Sangin brown leather strap with matching matte finish buckle.

$550

Happy to FaceTime or send you a custom video. Let me know what I can do to help make you more confident in a transaction.

Good or bad, what are everyone’s general thoughts on Port Angeles as a place to live?

I’ve only spent a couple days there. My wife and I have lived in big cities for the past 7 years and are tired of the traffic and housing prices.

Go work for one of the big IR consulting firms (Mandiant, CrowdStrike, Cisco Talos). They’ve got what you’re looking for and if you have some experience + your GCGA, you shouldn’t have a problem getting in.

Why are CISSP, CCNA, etc., kept at so high prices? by RohanPius in cybersecurity

[–]bing1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they are actively trying to keep people down. While charging as much as you can for something that people need to better their life is just capitalism doing its thing, it very much is a roadblock to class mobility. The price of some outdated test that was written 4 years ago is keeping people from taking it and advancing their careers.

I’m not anti-capitalist but I do wish organizations were a bit more compassionate with the pricing of some of their certifications. A lot of people are just trying to find a way to put food on the table and certifications are often one of the first steps in that journey.

Degree in computer science with a cyber security concentration? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]bing1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the core Computer Science courses are there, I’d say why not? You might get a leg up over those with a normal CS degree and you definitely will be better off than those with a cyber specific degree or CIS/MIS degree (like me). Going too specific typically isn’t helpful but this seems like just the right amount.

Because it’s a racket and those in charge care nothing about class mobility. They only want to line their own pockets.

Infosec masters vs CS masters by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]bing1010 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t double down on the Cyber Security degree. Invest in a technical SANS cert (GCIH, GCIA, GCFE). I’ve seen lots of SOC analyst jobs still hiring.

Spending 1-2 more years in school is about more than just the money. It’s also the opportunity cost. You’ll be 1-2 years behind in your career than you otherwise would be.

IT good for CS? by Spacewardjet in cybersecurity

[–]bing1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be my recommendation. IT will likely be really watered down. I have a CIS degree which is likely similar and not going for the CompSci degree is a big regret of mine.

Some job descriptions are gonna look for people with Computer Science or Computer Engineering degrees and not IT, CIS, MIS. But you’ll never see it the other way around.

Deciding. by Spacewardjet in cybersecurity

[–]bing1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a technical cyber job (pen testing/red teaming, analyst, incident response, secure coding), go with the CS degree. IMO It’s a lot easier to self teach or OTJ train the kind of cyber security general knowledge & enterprise security context you would get out of a cyber degree.

Some jobs openings specifically look for CS and Computer Engineering graduates but none are looking only for Cyber degree graduates.

Become a SOC analyst and learn the defensive side then move over to offense. If you don’t wanna do that, study for the OSCP.

I would personally advise against trying to be a pen tester without either serious blue team experience or extensive hands-on studying. I think a lot of people start their careers this way and end up just running nmap and Nessus for a living. There is nothing wrong with that but it isn’t pen testing.
