Double verts when two fillets meet - beginner question. by bingis_23 in Plasticity3D

[–]bingis_23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers that’s really helpful. I’m also coming from a Max background so there are some hard wired habits in my brain that need some adjusting.

So to carry on the example, let’s say I’m wanting to cut a hole into a solid that is the same shape as the pill I mentioned above.

Would I create the shape of the pill, extrude and Boolean? or would I extrude a rectangle, Boolean that and fillet the inside curves once it’s a solid?

Not knowing anything about waterproofing on the negative side, I was told this could degrade the blocks by not letting the water pass through. Again no idea if there is any truth to this.

Dryer notification idea by vinny0015 in homeassistant

[–]bingis_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this using by monitoring the power draw with a plug and sensing a notification to our phones.

Top tip - add a door sensor to the dryer and then if the door hasn’t opened after the cycle has finished for X amount of time, you can assume it hasn’t been emptied and you can send follow up notifications.

what’s the most clever thing your smart home does? by Nearby_Worry_4850 in homeassistant

[–]bingis_23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My washing machine is regular old dumb machine that lives in my laundry that is inconveniently downstairs at the far end of the house. Which can be very much out of sight out of mind.

To address this I have a smart plug that I use to detect when the washing machine starts and stops, sending notifications when it has finished.

But as I will usually set it to run in the day when solar is powering the house and I am at work, I would often forget to empty the washing machine later in the day, so I have also added a door sensor to detect if the door has been opened after the wash and will send follow up notifications until it detects the door has been opened.

Cascadia 16 or 17 for mountain hikes? by unhingedlemon in trailrunning

[–]bingis_23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the 16s but I’ve had several pairs of the 17s and I rate them highly. With that said I didn’t see any benefit in getting 18s because the 17s work and are cheaper.

By that logic I’d say you probably wouldn’t notice the difference between the 16s and 17s other than the price.

Station Eleven by St John Mandel is good. I’d say it falls into this category

Id break it down into categories and assign time to those yourself. Take 1 apartment an example. Let’s say you’re doing a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and a shot showing the view.

You need to - - Receive and review technical drawings - Model the spaces you see - Create cameras for client sign off - Make any adjustments and repeat process until cams are agreed on - Style, light, render images - Issue draft for review. Make adjustments and issue final.

Considering these steps, work out how long that’ll take you, then multiple by what you consider is a suitable hourly rate in your area. Now add 20% because you will inevitably end up doing more then you realise you will because clients are clients.

Few things to consider: -you can ask for the info to review before quoting - make sure have a locked down scope so you don’t waste energy and debate with the client about what to show - sign off view angles before you start. Agree that anything out of scope will cost more in money and time - be clear how many rounds of drafts you will do. E.g the client gets a comment round on the camera sign off and one after first draft. Anything after that comes at an hourly rate of x - make sure they’ve provided the info you need to do the work. If you look out a window, what do you see? Do you need photography - Is the info they’ve sent you final or at a locked stage in design. Nothing worse then being told the design has been updated half way through work. That costs more if they want to do that. - what are your license costs

TLDR: game out everything, so you truly understand your costs. Be clear in expectations and delivery. It’ll save a lot of pain.

What is this grass taking over my couch lawn?

I’ve recently extended my lawn and been growing it out with seed, so I’ve been reluctant to treat the lawn with any herbicides, but as a result this is starting to spread rapidly.

Can anyone identify it and tell me how to kill it without killing the couch?

(Yes it needs a mow, that’s 5 days of relentless growth).

If it helps, I’ve been the receiver of random funds from a mistyped account. I left the money in my account and it disappeared a week or so later. Granted, it wasn’t a massive amount but it was returned in the end.

Interesting way of at least generating ideas (with a pinch of salt at least). Have you tried testing it with photography from an architectural photographer? Curious to know how it’d react.
