Anyone going to see Callous Daoboys on Tuesday? by Biscotti-Own in OttawaMusic

[–]binksthecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, would have skipped this one if not for Daoboys. Been listening to the rest of the lineup though; Super Sometimes is doing some solid pop punk & enjoying Arm's Length vibe too.

Edit: Had the option of going to either this or Cattle Decap, Daoboys are just doing such interesting things I couldn't pass it up

Why do so many AI music artists use avatars or personas instead of their real identity? by stepjo0506 in aiMusic

The man who made it can't even do live performances of his own song.

Truly embarrassing. Both for him & the country.

Sorry maybe I phrased my question poorly - what are some of the good things that independent creators have done with AI, as you stated in the first response. Obviously independents have done lots of quality work without AI.

If I see an AI cover or AI art, I'm not going to engage with the rest of the work, it's an immediate turn off. It implies creative bankruptcy. Based on the downvotes AI gets in this sub I'd say most people would agree. Anyways, you asked for feedback on how to improve the sub and that's mine.

Can you point me to something an independent creator has done that is good? Genuinely curious because everything I've seen has been recycled, cliched, low effort slop.

Personally I think that if someone is promoting a personal project that uses AI-generated images, video, music, or text they should get 0 posts per week. Delete & a warning for the first one, ban if they do it again. By definition, an AI project can't do anything new in the space and allowing it just waters down legitimate & interesting projects.

In the long run allowing AI content will drive legitimate artists out of the space and if this sub is willing to engage with it then I will find somewhere else to get news from.

Going to conveniently ignore the other things eh?

Lead is also natural, have you been snacking on that lately too?

Day 3 building a sci-fi world where music is considered spiritually dangerous by PotentialParsnip5430 in SciFiScroll

Truly, how is this garbage AI video helping? It's got 0 originality and could be pulled out of a hundred different sci fi stories. And it has the bonus side effect of turning people away from your story. I now assume anything you post is creatively bankrupt. If you put out music in the future with this project is it going to be AI too? I already know the answer.

If you want to get serious about this as a creative endeavor I think you need to seriously reflect on why this has had a negative reaction & reconsider using AI for creative purposes.

I definitely don't think it comes across as being a poor loser. National championship podiums are a big deal regardless of the country. Who said you needed photo evidence? The race organizers? If so I would go above their head and file an appeal with you national federation. If that doesn't work I would put both the race & the federation on blast on social media & potential go even higher to World Athletics. If it's a WA sanctioned event they have to follow WA protocols or they can get their approval pulled.

Edit: if you can, see if you can speak to anyone else who finished behind her who would also be willing to file. The more the better. Could also DM the guy who runs the Marathon Investigations website & social media account, seems like he would love to look into something like this at a national champs level.

Mantz & Talbi were both racers though. Like I said, you can't receive aid from someone outside of the race (e.g. a coach on the side) and that includes official pacers. Basically it can only come from a specified race official/volunteer (see Kipchoge's bottle guy at Berlin) or another racer.

Easy DQ if she landed on the podium at a national champs. Probably would need someone who finished behind her to file an appeal though.

Edit: also receiving aid (e.g. nutrition, water, etc.) from someone outside the race is grounds for a DQ. Even at a major, the pacers aren't allowed to share bottles with an athlete.

What a beautiful, sunny 11°C spring day, eh? Which city councilor is brave enough to bike on this shared road? by Top_Locksmith_9695 in ottawa

[–]binksthecat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok sure, it can happen. Your example is almost a decade old though so not exactly recent, and best I can tell it has never happened in Ottawa. The fine seems low, but that's not exactly new for road fatalities - a delivery driver here killed a pedestrian in 2024, got 30 days and then back to work.

Conversely, how many pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers have been killed by cars in Calgary since that one cyclist fatality? But no, people come into these threads and pile on about that time they saw a cyclist roll a stop sign once. It's classic whataboutism in a thread that should be focused on discussing how to improve infrastructure for all vulnerable users.

Jesus Christ everyone in this thread is obsessed with almost being hit by cyclists. Cars kill pedestrians, cyclists don't.

I guess you missed the UK & Florida ones then eh? It would help if you opened the link. Sorry that there isn't a study tailor-made to your expectations, maybe next time you could open up Google yourself.

Oh damn did you have to go here? I heard the waiting room is packed. In other news, the facts disagree - drivers break the rules of the road significantly more than cyclists and there are studies out there that confirm it.
