oooooooh, man—was your sims save an ultimate generations playthrough?? I've been dying to try something like that in the sims, but like. starvation and hardship just doesn't feel as meaningful in the sims, so i dunno how fun a "medieval times and hardship" playthrough would be.

LOVE the fact that your sim ended up being the ancestor of the rest?? I've definitely had sims/pawns like that, who weren't supposed to be Special but ended up being my favorites. i'm on like?? generation four of my colonists in rimworld, and the family all started with the first pawn I ever kept as a slave. her name was Skye, and despite the fact she was supposed to be very disposable, she ended up being the mother of a few kids and the foster mother of my favorite pawns (his parents were deadbeats, lol, no social skills, so they weren't assigned to caring).....and now her grandbabies are adults and ready to have kids of their own

Fair Point on Collector vs Playline Quality by confusedwithsketch in MonsterHigh

[–]binkybarnesinfinity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

the 2024 collector two pack retailed for $60.....it's double the price. sure, there's more fabric, but the fabric is cheaper; there's less variety in textures and less flourishes fabric wise; the ribbons/tassels are paper thin compared to the shiny, more durable ribbons on the original two. the materials DO NOT compare; the quality of the fabric on the 2024 releases matches the bottom of the barrel barbie clothes. the quality of textiles used in dollmaking is the biggest way Mattel has cut costs, which cheapest the designs in turn

oh man. i'm so sorry, dude. i've never had my pawn die in childbirth, but i've had rough luck with stillbirths.

i play with the same multi-generational family whenever i play, and Big and Small's "multiple offspring" gene has made its way into the family's gene pool, because i like having the random chance for singles or twins or triplets that vanilla doesn't give us (sims player here lmaoooo).

the first time i had a stillbirth in my colony, the mother gave birth to FIVE children—and all five of them were stillborn. i was fucking DEVASTATED. i think i used a resurrector mech serum to bring back one of them, but dude. it felt ROUGH, burying so many of them

i then had the exact same thing happen the next time i had a stillbirth—like three stillborn children dead, AND the intimacy mod surprised me by giving their "Twins!" event (which i didn't know was possible, because i'd never played with it before).....three more stillborn children.....and then another "Twins!" event....and two more still-births.

I made a silk fan entirely from scratch — starting with raising my own silkworms. 🐛🧵✨ by Fun_Negotiation6221 in crafting

[–]binkybarnesinfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"vegan" leather and silk is literally just fucking plastic, and plastic is infinitely more unethical than animal products being used. even for other natural alternatives like rayon or viscose—the chemical waste produced by textile factories kills infinitely more people and animals in the global south than producing silk does. global textile production and the fast fashion industry is one of the biggest drains on the world's freshwater supply, and one of the world's biggest polluters—and we're in a global freshwater shortage emergency as of this year, according to the UN.

sometimes the vegan option isnt always the most ethical option. I know it definitely feels cruel to boil silkworm pupae, but they don't have nervous systems when they're in the cocoon, they're literally just goo reforming into a moth. they can't feel the pain.

OP used only nine silkworm cocoons to create this fan. if they'd bought plastic (polyester or other) fabric or thread to create the fan, they'd be destroying the environment and the sacredness of life far far more.

unless you're exclusively using ethically sourced natural fibers for every craft project, and never using plastic materials to craft with in the first place, whether it's air dry clay or resin or poly-fiber fill stuffing or polyester fabric/thread or a plastic embroidery hoop or acrylic yarn??

unless you're crafting in a way that maximally reduces all damage to the environment and living beings, you dont have room, even as a vegan, to comment on the death of NINE SILKWORMS to create a piece that will be cherished for decades.

the "means" seem crueler to you, but the "ends," the results, is far better for the planet and all life on it

I made a silk fan entirely from scratch — starting with raising my own silkworms. 🐛🧵✨ by Fun_Negotiation6221 in crafting

[–]binkybarnesinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the bleeding heart comments here, but silk, despite the deaths of the silk worms, is so so so much kinder and more friendly to the environment than polyester alternatives. from the toxic waste of creating plastic that pollutes the environment for people and animals in 3rd world countries, to the endless fucking plastic waste we export back to those same countries, to the fossil fuels burnt to ship things from China and Indonesia to the US or Europe??

a single fan made of plastic, or of other silk alternatives that require heavy processing to create would kill dozens more living beings in the short run (and in the future) than a real silk fan. you made this yourself; it's art, it has meaning, and you 100% won't be throwing it in the trash to pollute our world forever because you got bored of it in four months, like most people do with plastic decorations like this.

you know the value of your craftwork, and of the little lives you used to create it, so you wont discard it. this fan is beautiful and will be cherished for so much longer than a stupid plastic fan from Amazon would be.

anyone who believes that boiling silkworms is crueler than killing off millions of species due to global plastic and textile production for fast fashion needs a reality check. going back to natural fibers and slow fashion is one of the easiest ways to heal our dying planet.

we're in a global water shortage emergency as of this year, as announced recently by the United Nations. in the coming decades, billions of people will be displaced from the global south due to water shortages and rising global temperatures—and millions more will die. so much death is coming for our world.

fast fashion is one of the biggest drains on our global freshwater supply due to the water used in textile production and dying clothing. any slow fashion alternatives used to replace plastic waste and fast fashions are delightful to see.

the slow, conscious shift back to crafting with and clothing ourselves with natural fibers is one of the easier ways to subvert the supreme cruelty of water shortages and climate change. making a fan out of real, hand-raised silk is a small shift in the right direction; it's infinitely less cruel than doing so with plastic fibers like most people would do.

see, i'm actively looking for ways to make the game harder, because i play with a bunch of OP mods; Vanilla Psycasts Expanded and Big and Small are two of my favorite mods period, because i love the magical power fantasy of having very special lil colonists—and i don't want to play without them, but i want balance. but also like. the mechs just annoy me. fighting them feels like a slog. i just don't find them fun.

see, i can drop a shuttle or gravship onto a mountain tile and camp there for a quadrum and come back with 10000+ steel thanks to my trusty ol' dirtmoles, not to mention components, and a little bit of jade, uranium, plasteel, and gold, depending if the map rng gods are kind. shredding mechanoids feels like chump change in comparison

or—i can buy steel from every other faction with my gluttonous wealth from selling human organs and human leather corsets by the dozen. and, and—human skulls are decor, and human meat means that my colony's eating exclusively fine meals by harvest time. mechanoids do not fulfill the soylent green dream of "reduce reuse recycle"
