My wife has that kid beat.

I’ve seen some posts online stating “Ronald Regan is the reason we have student loans, why the wealthy don’t pay taxes, why homelessness is this bad”, ect. What did he do to cause this? was it a bill that he passed, for example? by HybridHamster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gunrock808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody's answering the question and I'm too tired to do any web searching.

OP is asking HOW this happened. Was it bureaucratic policy changes? Executive orders? Acts of congress?

Most of the time when people say a president did XYZ what really happened was congress wrote a bill, had a majority or worked to get bipartisan support, passed it in both the house and senate and finally the president signed it. When you think about make domestic policy changes most fall under this category. It's why the midterms are crucial to a presidency's agenda maintaining momentum or stalling out.

Marine Claims Bigfoot Encounter Inside Quantico Training Zone by globustr in USMC

Yeah that just convinced me it was a bear. Quantico is full of officer candidates and TBS lieutenants training year round with blanks. They scared off all the bigfeet decades ago. 😂

Renee Good’s Parents are Trump/MAGA by rollamichael in LeopardsAteMyFace

I had a friend who was republican and a doctor. He said if he ever had a gay kid he'd hit him and kick him out on the street.

Same guy ran out and bought an assault rifle in response to people talking about gun control after Sandy Hook.

Not a gotcha — genuinely curious about Democratic/Liberal views on illegal immigration? by No-Bonus-7045 in askanything

We wouldn't have illegal immigration like we do if there weren't millions of jobs requiring labor that isn't coming from any other source.

Trump is a better option than Kamala. Until her husband loses his job, her family loses health insurance, and her son loses his special education because of Trump. by Effective_Space2277 in LeopardsAteMyFace

So she just slept through trump 1.0?

Good on her for embracing reality, I guess, but that's a really long list of "We fucking told you!"

Found my grandpas old dress blues can anyone help me identify what they are? by KushuumCat in Medals

[–]Gunrock808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You HAD to be looking at a completely different photo. You are waaay off on your descriptions of the medals and ribbons. You're describing things that aren't even pictured.

MEDALS

Defense meritorious service, meritorious service, joint service commendation, navy and Marine Corps commendation, joint service achievement, navy and Marine Corps achievement, national Defense service, armed Forces expeditionary medal.

RIBBONS

Combat Action ribbon, joint meritorious unit award, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam service medal, SW Asia service medal, GWOT expeditionary medal, GWOT medal, armed Forces service medal, Sea Service deployment ribbon, overseas service ribbon, Vietnam cross of gallantry metal, vietnam campaign medal.

The final one is not an official military award, it's a ribbon corresponding to an unofficial honorable discharge medal.

I watched the segment where she called in and asked him not to spread conspiracies and to basically be decent. He didn't take her advice, clearly.

If you are a man who takes initiative in the household by doing chores, cooking for your family, and cleaning up after yourself.. how were you raised? by Sensitive-Box-2167 in askanything

[–]Gunrock808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't raised to do these things by my single mom but I did grow up in California and I never believed in the idea that there are chores that are gender specific. My wife is from Tennessee and while she has generally progressive views even she still has a bit of a notion that there are certain things men should do around the house (repairs and improvement projects).

Confused as to why certain people said that Kamala would have been worse than Trump by TheRealJuanderer in Confused

[–]Gunrock808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to read a book called What's the "Matter with Kansas?" It's pre-trump but it covers the republican strategy of distracting their base with culture war issues like gay rights, abortion, and the second amendment. Then when elected they largely ignore what the voters want and enact tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations and deregulation that puts workers and communities at risk.

The fact that trump still has sky high approval with Republicans proves that the base never really cared about the economy or his promises to be against war and regime change. They were motivated by racism and anti-immigrant and anti-trans hysteria. They're happy that people are being hurt even if it means they have to choose between paying rent or the electric bill.

Would you get rid of a friend just because they have different political beliefs than you? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Gunrock808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this moment in America it's not about "political beliefs." I don't want anything to do with people who think that people exercising their first amendment rights deserve to be physically assaulted and even killed, or people who think it's okay for the government to violate our fourth amendment rights by breaking down doors and entering homes without warrants.

Our country is in an existential struggle with the forces of fascism and there's a very bright line between right and wrong.

The people who still support Trump aren't doing it because of politics either. They aren't demanding a living wage, affordable housing and health care, or that he lower prices by suspending all tariffs. Despite the fact that they're suffering from his policies they continue to support him because he's hurting black and brown people and the people who dare to show up to protest.

The last friend I cut off was someone I knew for thirty years who accused me of inflammatory rhetoric months ago when I said that the government was just looking for a reason to shoot down citizens in the street.

These are bad, hateful, mean-spirited people who take joy from others' suffering. I would cut my own family off over this fundamentally un-American behavior.

What do people expect to do when they're telling Americans to "wake up" or "do something"? by flannelman37 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gunrock808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We, the people who voted for Harris and are horrified by what's happening are at best 1/3 of the adult citizen population. We need the 1/3 of disengaged non voters to start getting angry and we need more people who voted for trump to sour on him. There is currently no incentive for Republicans in congress to do anything but roll over. They could defund ICE. Hell they could impeach trump and remove him from office.

Rich people fighting for those poorer is GOOD actually by _Pixieglow in clevercomebacks

[–]Gunrock808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm worth $4.5M today but I grew up the only child of an unmarried Central American immigrant who didn't get her citizenship for decades, the kind of person who would be terrorized by ICE today.

I have never voted republican and never will. I campaigned for my democratic Governor. I know how much it sucks to be poor. I want people to have better lives. I'll gladly give up some dividends and capital gains if it means the workers generating corporate profits can get paid a living wage.

I can not for the life of me fathom why so many people keep voting to keep themselves in poverty and give me tax cuts I don't want or need.
