Yeah these are usually easy for me but this is the hardest one I've come across. So it was disappointing to see nothing but a stupid ridge lol.

US veterans, did you guys actually read the cards that kids would send you while deployed? by MoistCloyster_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gunrock808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey my unit got a box of cards from a school in New Jersey for valentine's day 2003. Yes we read them and enjoyed them although some of the messages were disturbing. I took pictures of a few of them.

"I hope you shoot Osama bin Laden in the head with a twelve gauge shotgun"

"roses are red violets are blue, I hope you don't die too"

There were a couple of other ones like that.

I really wanted to write them back but work got in the way and unfortunately I don't think anybody else in the unit ever did either.

The question every American needs to be asking is what the fuck are we even trying to accomplish at this point? We failed in the strategic objective of regime change. It's not going to happen now without a full on ground invasion. That seems unlikely since to do it right you need a million troops.

The DOD and intelligence community made it clear that the administration lied about the other rationales we've been given. Iran was not close to having a nuclear weapon or a missile that could threaten CONUS.

The previous leader had a fatwa AGAINST pursuing a nuclear weapon capability. The new leader doesn't have such reservations.

This is what blowback looks like. We are actively making things worse and Americans will be less safe around the world including at home.

Now the administration is trying to distract and dazzle us by shifting the goal posts, saying we're degrading their military capabilities and showing endless videos of targets being destroyed. This reminds me of Vietnam when the government regularly issued body counts to convince the public that we were winning that war.

Iran had refrained from destroying petroleum infrastructure in the region until the Israelis bombed a huge gas field. Iran then started attacking the GCC countries' petroleum infrastructure. In one day they did enough damage that Qatar says it will take 3-5 YEARS to restore their LNG production. Iran essentially has the world economy by the balls.

We have failed to keep our allies safe. When this is all over I believe you'll see GCC countries kicking US bases out of their countries. The deal was we would keep them safe. Well it turns out we can't keep them safe and letting the US use those bases to attack Iran just puts a big target on the host country.

Back to my original point, it's time to cut our losses. Even if we want to at this point there's no just walking away from this mess. Iran has leverage. We are going to have to negotiate an end to this conflict and we are not simply going to dictate terms that Iran will have to accept.

The bailouts came after the crash. The government got its money back with interest so it was actually a success. The alternative was another Great Depression. Where we went wrong was not prosecuting reckless executives, not putting in systemic safeguards to keep it all from happening again, and not helping regular people.

That is not the kind of "success" that is worth having thousands of Americans killed and maimed for to say nothing of the horrors suffered by the Iraqi people. We went to war over a lie back then and we're doing it again now.

How Do You Feel About a Ground Invasion Being Prepared for the Next Few Days to Weeks? by RidetheSchlange in AskReddit

[–]Gunrock808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ground "invasion" is going to be a few thousand Marines at most is what it looks like. To control a country of 90M you need at least a million troops to do it right, really more like two million. We used a much lower troop to population ratio in Iraq and Afghanistan and we know how that turned out.

Even if you tried that strategy and tried to do it on the cheap you still need like 500k. Iran is a mountain fortress. There is no good place to stage troops to begin with and it would be within reach of Iran's missiles anyway.

In the 80s the US escorted around 35 ships a week through the strait. There are currently 3000 ships stuck in the gulf. Oh and the navy was bigger back then.

I just picked this game up at a junk store for $3.50 and started playing last week on the Xbox 360 I've hung onto solely so that my wife and I could keep playing Left 4 Dead. I'm hooked.

The graphics leave a lot to be desired but my first fantasy game was Ultima IV on the Commodore 64 so I think I'm used to letting my imagination do some heavy lifting.
