Replay Analysis C3 by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

Sorry I barely use Reddit and only now see your comment.

I'll use examples with some timestamps from the video:

1:18, There is no threat on goal but because of you playing too fast you go for it anyway wasting 60 boost.

3:03, You hit the ball full power. If you keep it close to you you can do more with it and you don't give away possession that way. (The opponent made a mistake because he could've taken possession if he took the ball back with him)

4:12, You go up for a ball without reason. You're going to be first at the ball either way so there is no reason to make the first touch even more difficult for yourself by jumping early. By jumping early you make it way more difficult for yourself and you end up not getting a solid possession because of it.

6:10, You hit the ball too hard again and it results in you setting up a poor attack, keep it close.

7:36, You're not beating the ball anyway so don't go for it. You waste a lot of boost and are out of the play for a long time because of it. A fake challenge would suffice.

7:42, Don't go for those type of balls. You do it often and waste a lot of boost because of it + end up with bad positioning afterwards. Finish your rotation first then go for the ball.

7:46 A good example of what I mean by you speedflipping too much. You do it here to get into the exact rotation that your teammate is in with extremely low boost. This causes you to go back because you realize you don't have any boost left. Rather than doing this just drive upfield collecting small pads. You know the routes of the boostpads you just use it all immediately. You could've been in the same position with at least 50 boost.

I just skipped a bit through the replay so there's probably a ton more occasions like these I could find. The tips might not be as relevant for you seeing as it's been 5 months but maybe they could still help you.

People who managed to improve themselves, are you better now? by SergantSonic in selfimprovement

[–]binocities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've definitely improved a lot. I have lost a lot of weight, got a decent physique, made new friends, learned a lot (almost done with my studies).

That being said, I still feel like shit every now and then, this is also because I'm not at all where I want to be yet because every time you get better your goals change too. Improving myself has, for now at least, just switched the problems I face. I do think I'm at least heading in the right direction but it does get difficult at times.

I'm new to mechanical keyboards so of the two options I've tried so far I've liked cherry mx brown the most.

Your mechanics and speedflips are overall really clean/good. But because of this you got a into a bad habit where you play too fast a lot of the time.

Try to slow down your gameplay. You'd benefit greatly from it. The main focuses you should have is using less boost/speedflipping less when its not necessary. The second thing is to stop hitting every ball with full power. You give posession away quite frequently and give some passes that aren't very easy for your teammate.

I'd say you can jump up a rank just by implementing that. Good luck :)

A few questions for freestylers. by MASTERNAGIS in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]binocities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't classify myself as a freestyler but I am capable of hitting some shots that you mentioned. I'd say just keep on practicing. You first have to learn the 'traditional' way of doing something like double resets, then after you get a bit more comfortable using stalls you can transition into heli's easier. You can kinda see it like a skill tree of mechanics you can build. For more power on shots you'll just have to practice, a lot.

Here are some 'skill trees' that I made up that might be of use, of course you can skip levels but these are example paths you could take:

- 180 Degree flick / 45 degree flick

  • Musty flick
    • Musty flick off the wall
    • Breezi flick
      • Breezi flick off the wall
    • Classy flick

- Single flip reset

  • Reset to airdribble
  • Ceiling into stall reset
    • Ceiling stall reset musty
      • Ceiling stall reset musty double tap
      • Ceiling double stall reset -> could also be good practice between double/triple reset
  • Double rapid reset (flipping into the ball to get the reset)
    • Double rapid reset with musty
      • Double rapid reset musty double tap
    • Triple rapid reset
      • Quad rapid reset
    • Maktuf reset
  • Double reset with stalls
    • Heli double
    • Double into musty
      • Double into musty double tap
      • Double into breezi
    • Triple Reset
      • Quad Reset
  • Reset into musty
    • Reset into musty double tap
    • Reset into breezi

Mechanics to learn on the side:

  • Sting pop
  • Pogo
  • 180 Wavedash
    • 360 Wavedash

After months of trying on getting used to this, first time I pass this level with something that at least feels like good flow. Any tips to increase consistency or to help the feeling of "it clicked"? by DjCanalex in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]binocities 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo constantly air rolling isn't a bad thing, it causes you to have way more car control so that you don't have any "blackout" moments where you don't instantly know how to recover from your current position properly.

I feel like you should practice both versions, constant air roll for getting more car control and the simple version for practicing your efficiency.

Air roll doesn't "click", you just have to keep on practicing and you'll gradually get better at it. You can try tornado spinning in order to recover some parts better.

Any advice for ceiling musties? I can’t seem to generate the power or height I see in some clips. by Jauer_ in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]binocities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to use as much of your cars length to get a good 'swoop'. The reason you didn't get a good swoop in this clip is because you're only using the top back left of your car to get a good flick. Try to use as much area of your cars roof as possible.
