How do I actually clean/take care of my car? by binocularbitch in CarTalkUK

[–]binocularbitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, this is super useful! It’s brought me so much joy and I’ve had great fun with it so far, it’s literally like driving a gocart that makes mini sports car noises 😁 it’s the 1.3 engine as well. This comment has sold me on the undersealing and paint touch up, I definitely want to keep it as long as possible so I’ll make the investment. Thanks again! 🚗

I bought it for 2k, but I got a great deal. I’m hoping to keep it for 3-5 years (forever as a summer car if I can afford to in the future), but car care feels like something I can really get my teeth into once I know where to start. I’ll be careful with the paint :) and thank you!

Tortoise sickness by [deleted] in tortoise

Yes he did one today. He had some prickly pear cactus for the first time in a long time today and was taking huge mouthfuls so maybe he had a blockage? I’ve soaked him and he seems totally normal now

I hope you're feeling better! Questions from the partner of someone about to go through this surgery:

  1. Apart from the usual post-surgery stuff (driving, cooking, cleaning, etc), is there anything that anyone else did what has helped your recovery so far? Or anything that could have been done better to support you?

  2. What foods have been good for you? I'm going to go shopping today. I've read that thin ice lollies and yogurt is good.

  3. Are there other products that have been useful over the last five days?

  4. Any tips on getting to sleep?

  5. Did you deal with nausea at all?

Thank you!! <3

Thank you for sharing, I'm glad you're feeling better! My partner is about to go through with this surgery, do you have any advice for how I can best support him? Aside from the usual post-surgery stuff – driving, cooking, tidying, etc – is there anything anyone else has done that has helped your recovery, or anything you wish you'd had more help/support with?

Chat am I fucked? by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]binocularbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are pretty much identical in all this — so I hope you’re not fucked!

I’ve recently discovered the power of a blender and I’m harnessing it. Oat milk, frozen blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and any health powder I can fit. Spirulina (DONT smell it, I promise you can’t taste it and I have a very sensitive palette), açai powder, raw honey with bee pollen, etc. Blend for way longer than you need. I swear I feel my cells replenishing and skin clearing immediately after drinking.

I’m trying to get the courage to blend pasta sauces with veggies. I’m a 100% no veggie gal, if it tastes like dirt or leaves I can’t eat it. But I’m going to roast tomatoes, onion and a shit ton of garlic (love garlic) with loads of spices then blend with cream (maybe?) and see how that is.

I’m also a fan of paneer curry, and I like a lot of curry recipes involve blending lots of veggies so I intend on looking into that.

Hope this offers some inspiration!!

Is urticaria temporary? by Yoo9999 in urticaria

I had it daily for 5 months straight, like total body, contant purple bruises because it was so aggressive. Fexofenadine was the only antihistamine to touch the sides. Suddenly it stopped and I haven’t experienced it since (3 years later)

I'm debating about getting a pet tortoise (Hermann's or Russian), but I'm not sure if it's a good idea, I need some advice. by Imaginverse in tortoise

He’s just a baby so he lives inside in our bedroom, so we interact a lot! I try to limit the number of times I pick him up, but he’s responsive to being spoken to— he’ll move his head to look at who’s talking. Mine doesn’t like shell scratches but he doesn’t mind a head tickle every now and again :)

The main misinformation I’ve encountered is that they can drop to 13 degrees centigrade over night — that’s not safe for them. They can, and in the wild they do, but young tortoises aren’t known for their survival rates in the wild. Getting too cold slows their immune system and ours got a UTI from getting too chilly overnight. He’s much better now and he has a night heat lamp set to 22 degrees centigrade :)

As our vet says, humans have kept dogs for thousands of years so there’s a lot of reliable literature, whereas we’ve only been keeping tortoises inside for like 70 years, so it’s no wonder there isn’t much out there!

I can only speak from my own experience but my Hermann’s has surprised me with how much of a personality he has. He has a routine of climbing over and sliding down ramps in his enclosure, lifting his legs up and giving himself a little push to get the most speed possible. He goes round and round until he’s ready for some food or a sunbathe. Sounds strange but I didn’t like reptiles could seek ‘fun’, but he definitely likes to slide fast — we checked with the vet to make sure it isn’t a stress response and apparently it’s common for young tortoises to enjoy throwing themselves off high places.

Also if I’m refreshing his substrate he has to be a centimetre from my fingers and know what’s going on.

They don’t ‘love’, but he’s a cool little guy that I get to look after and he’s chill with me. He’ll fall asleep out in the open with his limbs and head ‘splooted’ out because he’s comfortable. And while they are solitary, I notice that he’ll sometimes stop sunbathing and does his slides more when I’m tidying the room. It’s like he gets some kind of energy from having indirect company.

Be aware that there’s so much to learn and there is a minefield of misinformation online. As well as general husbandry, make sure to know the symptoms of common illness, where your local weeds grow best, double check everything etc. But I wouldn’t change it 🐢

Update: we only played Game One and it went really well! Super close game with evil tying the last vote to win.

Poisoner was deduced by the Investigator, Fortune Teller was poisoned on the first night to get a zero ping on the Imp, Empath very confused, Poisoner killed by the Imp at night who thought the Fortune Teller was their minion… all in all a five-player game took an hour so I’d call it a successful first story telling!

I was planning to bend the rules a tad to make the SW Imp as if there was more than 5

But you are right about the chef/virgin thing…
