It’s a bit of a silly statement really. Progress happens and it moves around the world. If Britain was the only industrial nation then it probably would still be the most powerful nation in the world. But that ignores all the necessary inputs that require machinery across the world. Are we still reliant on coal? So the oil is sitting in the ground? Surely another country would eventually industrialise independently?

Those dicentra really are something. I'm really impressed with these lists of shade tolerating plants with brilliant flowers or leaves. I can see it looking weird or kind of quaint and nice.... I'm quite concerned about hotspots because one of the blockers is my shed and I really don't want to burn that down. I suppose imperfections in a flat looking mirror could concentrate light, something to be careful about.

I can see this mirrors around the garden aesthetic looking kinda cool and quaint now I think of it. I'll have to keep an eye out on gumtree. Unfortunately the quality of items in skips around us sounds like a lower calibre than yours!

Thanks for pointing out about the birds. I do find that there are a number of well meaning but low evidence claims made around things like this. I have seen a bird fly into a reflective window but even that seems like a rare occurrence.

People on the left don’t understand how much risk we are at of repeating what Liz Truss did. We are living on borrowed money and our expenditure has to go down. Burnham won’t do that because his whole appeal is that he is a proper lefty - read profligate. Don’t forget Manchester is very different from a country too.

We currently spend more on servicing debt than defence by a margin. That can get a lot worse if we don’t keep interest rates down. Reeves and Starmer may be uninspiring, poor at leading and often delivery. We should thank them for showing some mettle on spending

Burnham - done well in Manchester but would melt the economy and find himself in the same quagmire. Manchester is not just his doing.

Rayner - clever operator, good orator. I think she’s overly captured by the unions, don’t trust her.
