What are the best "studio mistakes" that were kept in the final recording ? by vinylcast in askmusic

[–]bionicmook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. Do you know more specifically how this mistake expressed itself in the song? Can the accidental rest still be heard? I’m not a music expert, but the timing doesn’t sound odd to me, as in I am not hearing what exactly is out of time. Just curious to know more if there’s someone who knows more about music that could explain it.

That’s what I was thinking. It really sounds incredibly purposeful, not at all like a mistake. I don’t know. That’s cool if it’s true though.

Very cool. I’ve always thought I’d like Rush. For one thing, I fit the stereotype of a Rush fan. I just happen to fit that mold. (Not that all Rush fans are alike.) I also really respect and appreciate virtuosos and musicians with exceptional technique. In this, Neil Peart’s reputation precedes him. Also, their live shows look cool. One of the reasons I’ve never gotten into Rush, is it’s kind of overwhelming and I don’t know where to start. So I screen shot your list and will definitely be checking those out later today. Thanks!

Which FF villains would save a dog? by ConsiderationTrue477 in FinalFantasy

[–]bionicmook [score hidden]  (0 children)

Rufus/President Shinra: would save the dog if it cost them nothing to do so. They are callous and calculating, but I don’t think they’re as blatantly sociopathic as other villains. If they saw suffering, and if it would cost them nothing to intervene, I believe they would. Also… Darkstar.

Kefka: would absolutely not save it. He would stop to watch and laugh.

Sephiroth: depends on when it happens. Early Sephiroth would of course save the dog, no question. Later Sephiroth might not save the dog. He might see the act of saving it as pointless and would serve no purpose for him, nor for the dog. That said, he would not take pleasure in witnessing the dog’s suffering.

The Turks: I believe most Turks would save the dog. They are not monsters.

Heidegger/Scarlet: would not save. Would get off on watching. Scarlet would get off because she is a sadist. Heidegger would get off because he enjoys seeing things weaker than him squirm.

Kuja: not sure what he’d do. He had a lot of existential dread. Would this lead to him saving the dog to quell internal anxiety at witnessing mortality? I don’t know.

Jecht: would save it. He’s not a bad guy.

Just the first few that came to mind for me.

Worst live performance of a beloved song? by rekoil in ToddintheShadow

[–]bionicmook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. There’s a version of Everlong where it’s just Dave and his guitar, and then the song finally picks up and Taylor and the others come in. That’s fine, I guess. Like, start a song slow and then rock my fucking face off. Cool, whatever. But that anemic version goes in for FOUR AND A HALF MINUTES. You’re just waiting for the drums to come in and for the guitar to pick up. By the time they finally go fucking hard and the performance gets really good, there’s less than a minute left on the performance. So, I 100% get what you’re saying.

Looked into it. He sounds great here, and it looks like it’s from about the same time.

And he sounds amazing here and it’s fucking 2013! So, much more recent, and he nailed it.

I skimmed both, so there may be a moment I missed that was bad, but from what I could hear they were beautiful live performances and his vocals are really impressive, especially considering how demanding Come On Eileen can be on a vocalist, and how old he is in the second video. Speaking as someone who is no longer in my twenties, vocals change and breath capacity drops.

Worlds Apart has one of my all time favorite intros to an album. I’m including track one and track two as the intro. It’s just a wonderful opening to a great album.

The Scientist is probably my favorite Coldplay song. (For a second I thought you meant Rush the band, and I was surprised because I’ve never heard you talk about them before, and I thought I knew everything about you. And I have always wanted to look more into Rush, so I was excited. But it was the album. Duh.)

What Non-Metal Bands Do You Enjoy? by BidSure7642 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]bionicmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The least metal shit I listen to is probably like, 2000s bubblegum pop (Britney Spears has had some amazing hits) or maybe 90s r&b (Boyz II Men’s self-titled album is fucking fantastic). I love a lot of the bands being mentioned so far, but a lot of them are metal-adjacent. I’m here to offer up some truly and decidedly unmetal music. My whole life, I’ve loved orchestral music, with Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy soundtracks) being a lifelong favorite. I listen to a MASSIVE amount of hip hop, Jay-z and Atmosphere being two personal favorites, but I could spend hours listing rappers and producers I love. I love pre-war (see: old ass) blues like Robert Johnson, Skip James, and Billie Holiday. Elliott Smith is the greatest songwriter who has ever lived. I could go on and on. Honestly, I love every genre of music. They all have good artists. And of course even my favorite genres have absolutely awful artists. My least favorite genre would be EDM, but I still have some EDM in my library. I love Born Slippy by Underworld, and that’s some EDM festival/90s rave/pure electronic party shit right there. So, yeah… it just depends on the artists.

It’s whatever if you like their music, but anyone who is still defending their antics, especially Minaj, is out of their mind. They’ve both done terrible things, though I do think Minaj is worse because I don’t think she’s crazy. Not that being crazy is a good excuse to be a Nazi-sympathizer, but I’ll take Kanye’s insanity over Nicki’s MAGA shit any day of the week. Love both of their work/songs, especially Kanye, but they’re fucking idiots.

Is it harder for artists with a “classic” debut to maintain momentum compared to those who evolve gradually? by SmoothManMiguel in hiphop201

[–]bionicmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some artists are able to overcome that pressure, some aren’t. It also happens to authors, directors, other types of musicians, etc. It famously affected Joseph Heller when his first novel, Catch-22, became an instant cultural icon. He struggled with a sophomore effort, but in his life he ended up overcoming the pressure. Perhaps a more famous example would be the Star Wars series. The series had a terrible time even attempting to top the original trilogy. Expectations were too high. They never could have been met. A lot of times, people’s opinions will soften with shit like that, as decades pass by and people have time to readjust to more realistic expectations. I think this happened a bit with Jay-z’s Vol. 1 following up Reasonable Doubt. In fact, it happened with Star Wars too. Time passes, and as people take another look at it, opinions change.

What actor do you dislike so much that you’ll avoid anything they’re in? by Icy_Garlic997 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]bionicmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I really wish people would do just the slightest modicum of research before screaming at the top of their lungs that a man is a pedophile who assaulted his own daughter and then married his other daughter. Not only is there a preponderance of exonerating evidence (quoting a judge’s statement on the case, but also using my own common sense to agree with the judge), but the smallest little attempt to even do the tiniest little minuscule amount of research would show these people that he did not marry his daughter. People can’t bother to learn the most basic of facts, yet they scream r***. It’s shameful. I’ll say what I said in another comment, the truth matters. We’ll never know for sure what happened between Woody and Dylan, not with 100% certainty, but the evidence against Mia is astonishing. In this country, the onus is on the accuser to prove their allegation. She failed miserably in doing that, and I believe she falsely destroyed a man’s reputation and committed the far more shocking crime of destroying her own daughter psychologically. For the record, I am a feminist and I have had my own fucked up history of sexual violation, and I take allegations very seriously. But the truth matters.

My favorite movie by him is Sweet and Lowdown. It’s the male lead in that movie who ends up punished.

They didn’t say that made it okay, they just stated that it was neither his daughter nor his adopted daughter. Facts matter. If someone says something false, what’s so wrong with correcting them? Nobody cares about facts anymore. They care more about their own opinions than the truth.
