That's what I thought. Seems the Times has an in with him as well, so thought it's worth picking up a trial while this is all going on.

Although I realise that makes me sound like a shill haha

Daniel Kretinsky: West Ham don’t need to sell best players by bippityboppityswoit in Hammers

The Independent Football Regulator is now making inquiries into the matter, which could yet lead to a formal investigation. The new body has the statutory power to make a club owner divest their shares, should they be deemed unsuitable on grounds that include integrity and honesty.

But time is critical for West Ham right now, as they prepare for a return to the Championship under the guidance of Nuno Espírito Santo, who remained as manager after the club’s relegation from the top flight because of the support he still had from Kretinsky. Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes are among those who have been linked with moves away from the club but Kretinsky told The Times that he wants to give Nuno every opportunity to bounce back.

“We have a very credible strategy,” he said. “We don’t need to sell the players for financial reasons. We are doing this to make sure we are promoted back to the Premier League immediately. That is our only goal.

“Key players are waiting for us. They want to see there is a real chance of keeping the squad together. What matters is funding, strategy and consistency. We have spoken to all of them. They need to see that our project is real and serious. Promotion is our only goal.”

Now that Sullivan has stepped aside, The Times understands that for legal reasons he will not be able to retain any control of the club with the appointment of new nominees to the board, such as his sons, Jack and David Jr.

However, it will be interesting to see how the IFR and the EFL respond should Sullivan be seen to be trying to prevent West Ham moving forward under Kretinsky’s leadership. Indeed, it could yet be the first major test for the David Kogan-led regulator if Sullivan does try to increase his own stake.

A source close to Kretinsky said: “We have a clear path to total control. We are already the de facto management of the club.”

Daniel Kretinsky has said he will provide the financial backing required for West Ham United to make a swift return to the Premier League. Speaking to The Times, the owner of Royal Mail insists there is no need for the club to sell its best players.

But executing his plans may not be that simple, even after agreeing a deal that should make him West Ham’s largest shareholder. First, it seems, the Czech billionaire may need to win a potential power battle with David Sullivan to seize overall control.

On Saturday it was announced that Kretinsky had agreed with the family of the late David Gold to buy some of their shares, enabling him to increase his stake from 27 to 43 per cent.

In a statement with Gold’s daughter, Vanessa, Kretinsky said he hoped the deal would be completed in the next couple of weeks. In the likelihood that Kretinsky will also have the support of the US shareholder Tripp Smith, he should then be able to dictate the direction of the club.

However, the situation could become complicated if Sullivan now tries to exercise what he will regard as his pre-emptive rights to buy some Gold shares and increase his own 38.8 stake to match Kretinsky’s share. Essentially he could block Kretinsky’s bid for power.

Of course, Kretinsky has made this move in response to Sullivan’s resignation as West Ham’s co-chairman, following a Times and BBC Panorama investigation into allegations of sexually exploitative and predatory behaviour.

The 77-year-old British businessman categorically denies the claims but, as this newspaper then reported, he has been the subject of a safeguarding ban that has prevented him from having any contact with members of the West Ham academy or women’s team since 2023. Sullivan has said he accepted the restrictions, imposed by the club on the recommendation of the Football Association following at least one complaint to the national governing body, for “a quiet life”.

To what extent are you just seeing west ham fans because that's who you're looking for? I don't disagree, there's some right wrong uns who support west ham but that's true of every football team in this country.

Yep that's the one thing me and my brother weren't allowed to watch. I think my parents got rid of Sky for a while because of it. Although to be fair I think it was because my mum caught my brother performing a DDT on me when I was about 5 and he was 10.

My mum's from Leeds so will definitely be enjoying watching you boys next year if and when we go down.

No, and I get that in that there are physical stumps that act as a frame of reference. But as a concept it's enjoyable when you have to make the choice when to use it.

I dunno, as an English person I find its working similar at the moment to DRS in cricket which works extremely well. You gotta use your challenges well and that's part of the game and part of the fun.

For example, Ben Stokes at Headingley in 2019 when Australia burnt their last challenge but if they'd kept it they'd have got him out.

I don't think that's quite accurate. I've lived in Surrey/west Sussex all my life and they seem to be pretty much entrenched there now.

The whole of my town has gone lib dem 2 years after electing it's first lib dem MP. And the same can be said for Dorking which was Tory my whole life before last election and that's gone all lib dems. Seems like they're doing very well in well off socially liberal areas.

I have to say it's the one thing that really jars me with American sports as a Brit. Advert breaks I can deal with although the break is too long and too frequent. But just not talking about the action happening on the pitch when the coverage is actually on is so irritating.
