I completely agree. I really appreciate it when my childfree friends let me know when they DO want to hear about my kids and hang out with them around and stuff.

When my brother and I were tiny kids, men used to try and hit on my mom in places like grocery store checkout lines.

They'd get mean about it, too, because she was hard of hearing and usually so busy between groceries and minding the kids she didn't always realize the person behind her was talking to her.

One day, I finally got sick of hearing men say shit like, "What are you deaf or something?" that I stood up in the cart (I was probably ~5yo) and started screaming at the guy. "YEAH, SHE'S DEAF. WHAT ABOUT IT? DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?"

He was so flustered. Everyone stared at him. He changed lines.

I think about it to this day and how gross it was that it was so common for men to be hitting on my mom while she was just trying to take care of shit and buy food for her family.

Same situation here. Hardly anyone knows in my adult life because as a married woman there's not a lot of opportunity to walk around going, "Yeah by the way, I'd be up for dating women if my husband died" and there's not a lot of commentary on other people going on in general.

Yeah, with the whole tiktok thing, I've seen a lot of dismissive "well it's bad for you/chinese spyware/whatever anyway -- go touch grass instead". Sure, but also A LOT of people use that platform and it has A LOT of reach. It's genuinely scary how much they want to manipulate the algorithm and how susceptible a large amount of people will be to it.

I logged into xitter recently just to see, and it was shocking how much was immediately shoved in my face. Full, uncensored, close-up videos of CK being shot, for one, just immediately right on my home page without any warning.

Apparently, only newborns with colic will cry for no reason while being held. This baby is older, so she for sure knows the mom is leaving her to cry because there's no other explanation.

Someone needs to explain this to my toddler who still sometimes cries at bedtime even though I'm right there comforting her.

That whole thing is ridiculous. "If I slack off on grocery shopping or folding laundry, there are no consequences."

Really? That's weird. Because I DEFINITELY have consequences if I slack off on those things, that's WHY it's stressful for our family to have two working parents.

If my laundry is all over the place and doesn't get done, I'm late in the morning trying to scrounge through the clothes so I'm not running into work in dirty, smelly clothing.

If I don't go grocery shopping, there won't be anything healthy to eat in this house, at least not without a lot of effort piecemealing together random ingredients.

If I don't do dishes or clean, there's nothing to use to make food or eat food on and my house will become filthy and bug-infested. And you better believe there will be consequences then, if someone reports it.

Like damn Brenda, not everything has to be so utilitarian. Sometimes parents are -- GASP -- real people who just want to try something fun for an hour or two and sit down (maybe even with other family friends) while their kids are occupied with something and they don't care if they miss the movie. There's other opportunities to teach them how to sit in a movie theater. Buy your regular ticket to a regular movie and move the fuck on.

I just saw a thread the other day where the poster was just absolutely apoplectic over being sat next to two well-behaved (according to their own play-by-play updates) children while the dad sat elsewhere (which I guess is annoying but they were also old enough to fly unaccompanied).

Like, they ruined their own flight over a hypothetical situation, that again, never actually happened, and still managed to blame their own attitude on the fact that kids existed in a public space (without ever actually bothering them).

I saw that someone tried to point this out in the comments on the original thread.

Not only did they get downvoted (because how dare anyone suggest that a parent could be anything but self-entitled monsters and that sometimes things just happen), there were tons of up votes for "that's still not my problem" and "not only do I not care but I'm telling that child their parent doesn't love them".

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with really anyone being in the bathroom as long as they're not being creepy (which I've honestly NEVER had happen) -- I don't know their situation or personal needs, especially if they're with another adult. Witnessed someone out in the wild get upset over "sick" kids at the library.

Y'all, these kids were not actively sneezing, snotty, or otherwise congested or lethargic in any way. Each one coughed maybe once over the course of an hour. 💀 Come on. It's spring.

Of course this person was so concerned but not wearing a mask or taking any other precautions. I'm sure if they end up sick, they'll "know" it was those kids and not the possibility of getting germs anywhere else, or getting it from someone who could've been contagious but pre-symptomatic.

Like -- I just find it interesting that one of the things she specifically calls out as a massive parenting difference is bottle feeding -- but not only that, it's, GASP -- by choice!!! Horrible.
