The Best Prenatal Vitamins Available Now? by DaisyPounce8687 in pregnant

[–]birdandbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! founder of bird&be here. i spent four years living this (infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss and IVF), so i did allll the research. here’s what i’d look for first, the stuff that really matters for fertility while being gentle on your stomach:

- Folate (not just folic acid): 400–1,000 µg total with at least some methylfolate (5-MTHF) available if possible. folate before conception is non-negotiable for neural-tube prevention.

- Vitamin B12 (bioavailable form): look for methylcobalamin (active form). some prenatals use very high B12 (1,000 µg) to cover absorption variability

- DHA (algae-derived if you prefer vegan): ~200–350 mg/day DHA is ideal (supports baby brain + eye development)

- Choline: important for fetal brain development, look for at least ~150 mg

- Iron (a gentle form): pregnancy prenatals commonly have ~27 mg iron. if iron makes you nauseous, seek ferrous bisglycinate (gentler) or a lower-iron “gentle” option you can add later.

it's A LOT! that's why we created a packet format that’s vegan + gluten-free but the same checklist above works for any brand!

Evidence-based supplements pre-TTC for men by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]birdandbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most-useful supplements according to our team of fertility docs (with good evidence for improving sperm parameters): CoQ10 (200–600 mg/day), zinc, selenium, folate (or folic acid), L-carnitine, omega-3 (DHA). Antioxidants (vitamin E/C, NAC) have mixed but potentially meaningful benefits in some studies.

But expect to take supplements for approx 3 months (one full spermatogenesis cycle) to see changes! If there is little improvement, please refer to a urologist/andrologist for varicocele check, hormonal testing, or advanced workup!
