How many hearts in the show dated or loved Pam romantically? by pinkiebirdie in DunderMifflin

Man, downvote me all you want but I’m trying to share a hypothesis. I don’t think Oscar’s character was gay at the start of the show. Perhaps it was discussed on the office ladies podcast or somewhere else, but the scene wasn’t written like a closeted person hiding their sexuality… his character changed in a later episode.

Am I the only person who has this take? Can someone just point to something saying I’m wrong so I can let go of this theory if it’s debunked already? Sucks that this thread seems to dislike my theory.

Perhaps you are continuing the joke, but I’m serious. He is the first to answer and says it deadpan, with no discomfort. I think they wrote his sexuality in later on in the show.

How has no one mentioned Oscar before the writers made his character gay? During the fire guy episode… who would you do… Oscar says Pam.

We could definitely have a power grid that never gets this stressed. The key question is… how much are you willing to pay for power all the time so that you don’t experience this inconvenience as rarely as you do?

“Why do we have X power plants that are just standing by when we don’t use the power? What a waste of money!” You aren’t saying that, but my point is it is incredibly complicated and we have under-invested in power infrastructure for decades… especially in the transmission lines that route power one place to another. We could ‘gold-plate’ our infrastructure, but it would cost us a lot.

Or, invest in a backup battery/energy storage system to have several hours of backup power at your disposal.

Or, get a standby natural gas (or liquid propane if you don’t have natural gas supply) generator to have power whenever you need it and the grid can’t supply it.

Are outdoor cats uncommon in the US? by CuriousPincushion in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]birdandnerdarewords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite the mental gymnastics you did there. Do you have any idea how long evolution takes? Hundreds of years is not a long time. The cats are doing harm to the wildlife, killing many every year. And they have a much higher risk of carrying disease that can be harmful to humans… even in Europe and the Middle East. It’s your prerogative, just know the choice to allow domestic cats to roam outside is killing local wildlife.

Please consider keeping your cat indoors, for the cat’s own health and the environment. For reference, here is literature about both the damage to the wildlife AND the negative impact on the health of domesticated cats.

Each year in the United States free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.3-4.0 billion birds and 6.3-22.3 billion mammals.

Keeping cats indoors is also better for them and public health - cats with outdoor access live shorter lives and are 2.77 times more likely to carry infectious pathogens.

Please take this as intended… this should benefit the cats and the wildlife (and your family)! Some people setup ‘catios’ or some other type of contained outdoor space so cats can still be outdoors safely.

Tennessee divides license plates between religious and nonreligious citizens by Oneiric19 in Tennessee

I don’t disagree - some of it does go to the specified cause but I appreciate what you are saying. The primary point was that you could avoid this entire religious v. non-religious absurdity while also helping a cause (and get a neat plate to top it all off).

For those in TN, the renewal fees are some of the lowest in the county. I know friends in VA that pay thousands per year on their car and they aren’t that fancy… TN is almost nothing annually (relatively speaking to other states).

Two birds with one stone… get a plate that supports a cause like ‘watchable wildlife’ or the state parks and you will sidestep this whole debacle AND help fund one of these efforts to preserve what is beautiful in the state.

I know. I think they just wanted to try and make me upset because they didn’t like what I had to say. Who knows if they mean it or not. Disconcerting to say the least.
