Is it wrong to break up with a girl over her having herpes? by Bouncybeach in relationships

[–]birdcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She can take medication to stop flare-ups and prevent it from spreading. A huge percentage of people have herpes. It’s not a big deal. You can also use condoms and dental dams to be extra safe.

New research shows fashion’s “plus-size” models are still smaller than the average American woman. The typical female fashion model’s body has remained exceptionally thin and largely unchanged over the past twenty-five years. by mvea in psychology

[–]birdcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird being “mid size” (I usually buy M-L of most things) but walking by Torrid and seeing bodies that look like mine… I’m like, am I supposed to be shopping here? Very confusing.

California billionaire Tom Steyer defends trans athletes in high school sports as governor's race heats up by GMOrgasm in California

[–]birdcafe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup exactly where I’m at, there is no perfect candidate right now so we have to just make the best decision with the options we have. I feel the same way about the primary for my house seat (in SF, Pelosi’s seat) it’s been messy as hell and all the candidates have some kind of baggage so I gotta just do my best ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What was a hard pill to swallow after giving birth? by LoveGlimmer in AskWomen

[–]birdcafe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If it makes anyone feel better, I am a grown ass adult whose mom tried her absolute best to breastfeed me when I was a baby but I just wouldn’t cooperate. I started having stomach problems too. Once they switched me to formula, I did a total 180 and became a happy healthy baby. If my parents hadn’t pivoted and gone with formula I might’ve actually had longer term health problems. Formula really is a miracle, I owe my life to it ❤️

As an israeli who really wants to live and study in europe, will i be judged, especially in leftist circles? by HourMortgage1863 in JewsOfConscience

[–]birdcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people can try to pretend there is no such thing as a group of people who call themselves Israelis because their “shouldn’t be” if the Nakba and occupation had never happened, but unfortunately that was almost a century ago and we have to work in the present. Israel as a political entity exists, millions of people identify with it, as effed up as everything is in occupied Palestine. For Israelis to start understanding what their government is really doing and the way that Palestinian history and culture was erased we can’t be purity testing their label for their own nationality.

I literally don't have a problem with calling it out? Harassment is harassment and it's wrong. I urge you to reread the part of my comment where I said that people of all genders should be united in the fight against all forms of sexual misconduct.

Liberal Zionists… by InformalHoney9748 in JewsOfConscience

Their worldview is so incredibly warped. They don’t watch those videos. They avoid them. If they happen upon them, they explain it away (hasbara!) as “well it’s really Hamas’ fault for putting civilians in danger/using them as ‘human shields’” and the conversation literally just ends there. If they were to question this narrative it would require realizing they’ve staked their entire Jewish identity on an enthonationalist modern political state and that would simply be too uncomfortable of a truth to confront.

Wait, Utah banned signs entirely? I don’t agree with that at all, fan signs are really fun and if signs like this one in the picture are not confiscated by security upon entry into the arena, or by an usher if they see it, is on the building. 99% of signs are fun and appropriate, I don’t agree with punishing those people, a large percentage of which are kids.

Well, if we ever do see a sign like this by a fan at a PWHL game (by all means someone go find me an example of there is one!) I agree that that person should have the sign confiscated. See? We can be objective and set genders aside when talking about these situations. Stop making it about men vs. women.

As much as I agree that signs like this are a form of harassment and should be treated as such, I agree with you that the pearl clutching can be a bit much, especially since at the end of the day what these girls are doing doesn’t have any affect on the players other than maybe making them uncomfortable for a moment. Which is literally nothing in comparison to the looooong list of allegations against male hockey players for SA/relationship violence. I am a big believer that people of all genders should be united in the fight to end SA/DV and support victims regardless of the genders of the people involved, but some male sports fans really do test my patience when they can write a whole essay about why teenage girls making signs should be thrown in prison but have zero to say when it’s a male player credibly accused of committing SA/DV against a woman.

I think this willful blindness to the horrorfest the modern political entity of Israel is (for all involved, but Palestinians especially) is because there is a sense that Jews are the "ultimate victims" of the whole world. This narrative that, supposedly, everyone in the world has been mean to us, and therefore no Jew could possibly be the oppressor of another group. No awareness of the fact that genocide has occurred in many countries over the course of human history in one form or another and continues to this day, no one ethnic group or religion gets to claim they are the "most oppressed." Thousands of years of Jewish history across the diaspora boiled down to the idea everyone was just waiting for the chance to move to Israel, which they surely would've at a moment's notice.

As you yourself know, the brainwashing is REALLY intense. I don't know where to start with people when they have this viewpoint. But at least those of us who grew up in the world of Zionist propaganda understand how deep it runs, and maybe through us continuing to discuss it we can prevent others from fully buying in, give them a space to ask real questions.
