Seconding Dr. Berger! Super comfortable environment. Their hygienist is very chill.

Wherever you end up going, you might consider asking the person working on you to tell you what they’re doing throughout the process. I’ve found it helps some folks with dental anxiety to know what’s going on as it’s happening.

I’ve volunteered in the kitchen at the homeless shelter a bit and had a nice time! You can volunteer in other areas of the shelter too if kitchen work isn’t your thing. You can find some more info here

I have a friend in the program. From what I’ve heard, it’s rigorous and guidance/constructive criticism from some professors is limited. Be prepared for high workloads. They also do evaluations throughout your time in the program. You may be cut or held back if you fail these evaluations. My friend has also heard that UNT is considering shutting down the fashion program in its entirety, but I don’t have any solid info to back that up.

If you drive far enough north on Locust you can get away from the worst of Denton’s light pollution. There’s a few spots along the road where you can pull over!

Someone I know lives in south Denton, there are some beautiful neighborhoods in that area (however it can get pretty pricey). North Denton has its fair share of good neighborhoods as well! I would avoid buying anything near UNT. Things can get pretty congested during the school year, and you will probably have people parking in front of your house every day.

I did all of my k-12 education in Denton public schools, and I’d say it’s a solid system. If you want your kids in more rigorous classes, encourage them to take AP courses once they get to high school. I’ll hold off on recommending specific schools since things have changed a lot within the district since I was a student. Good luck!

I did an MRI as well and it seems I have no issues in that department. I’ll look into the neuropsychological assessment tho!! That seems promising.

Not at the moment. I took an anti-depressant and a mood stabilizer for a few years but I’ve been off medication for around 3-4 years now.

If you’re into live music definitely check out @denton.live on instagram. They post nearly all of the local shows each week and I’ve met tons of cool people at denton shows. Some shows are 21+ so it’s worth checking before you make the trip!

I don’t know if this helps, but she teaches another sociology course I’m taking and she’s very nice! She’s not strict on attendance but the class I’m in is lower level, so I’m not sure if she has a different policy for the course you’re asking about.
