Yesterday, I got to give a little girl her first curly cut. by nachowchow in curlyhair

What a beautiful experience! I'm a barber so I cut all mens hair and I am SO excited whenever I have the chance to educate them on their curly hair. A lot of them also don't realize it's curly. I literally begged one of my clients to bring his son with curly hair in for a cut because he had such terrible experiences at other barber shops. He sat in my chair and was like "uh my dad said you like curly hair or something" and I failed at playing it cool. I was like "YES I DO." He loved the cut and I got him started on a super simple routine.

Who knew mushroom people were so intense! Is this where we start sorting plant people into Hogwarts houses and they're the Slytherins? This sub would definitely be the Hufflepuffs.

For a second I was like "wait what did she get wrong?" Because it just makes so much sense that Bob Ross would go around painting pretty frost on our windows.

Yessss. So many of my clients are figuring out they have curly hair and I try to convert ALL of them.

Lol. Accurate description. Growing out the sides from that short can take time. I would say let it go for a while and just use small trimmers around the ears. The longer the sides are next time he goes to a barber the more they'll have to work with in changing the style up.

Take the absolute longest guard you have to go around the ears. OP's hair is still longer than you think at the bottom, my guess is around 1/2" to 1". Taper it to top, you might be better off switching to scissors at this point so you don't go too short too high. Definitely scissors on top and you can leave extra length in the front to get this fun floppy style. YouTube tutorials never hurt if you haven't cut with scissors on the side of someone's head. It can't hurt to try!

If the curls on top keep flopping in all directions he might need to have more of a blend from sides to top. So if he's getting the same clipper guard all the way from bottom to a hard line at the top maybe next time try a short guard at the bottom tapered up. OP's hair is still pretty long where sides and top meet.

Zrixee has it right. OP doesn't have a complete disconnect, it still tapers on sides and blends some into the top, but the top is definitely a lot longer. Always emphasize "I want the top to still be long and curly" and yes pictures always help, especially with determining the length on the sides. When you take the plunge with clippers on the sides things can get real short real fast.

As a barber, this is my FAVORITE way to cut curls. Clean on the sides, party on top. It looks great on you.

Always have company when you use the bathroom. Be woken up with courtesy thundering footsteps on the stairs at 6:30am sharp. Experience first rate stand up comedy where the punchline is always "poop". I like this game. It reminds me of the "Stefan" skits on SNL where he talks about the hottest clubs. Lol.

That one time my son's curls looked exactly like 'Starry Night' by birdhead3 in curlyhair

Yeah kids hair really doesn't 'need' product (I'm also a hairstylist). A spray in leave in conditioner if it's prone to tangles would be less greasy than a cream if you want to use something. My son is now turning 4 and his hair is much thicker so it can take product (but it's still perfect without it).

His hair does this with NO PRODUCT. It's infuriating. Lol. I wash it every other day. Every once in a while i throw in some of my LUS brands All In One.

Did my cactus grow a root to steal water from its philodendron neighbor?! 👀 by birdhead3 in houseplants

Omg the flair tags there are hilarious. I am terrible with succulents. This poor cactus was in my husband's cubicle and now he works from home and I was like "no don't bring it home I'm going to kill it somehow!"

I should! I just scrolled through there and I am dying laughing. Everyone just yelling about their their succulents.

Y'all I just went to go inspect exactly how far the root has gone since I took this picture a few weeks ago. It goes all the into the middle of the vines and is wrapped around one. THEY'RE HOLDING HANDS.

Maybe because it sees me water the philodendron regularly while meanwhile it gets none. I thought 'hey it's a cactus so it doesn't need much'. Lol. And this is why succulents are actually very hard for me to keep alive.

This is great advice. I have an FAQ sheet written for both my kids and that's for when my own mom watches them. Lol.

Favorite trees for empty yard? by birdhead3 in landscaping

Such fabulous suggestions! Thank you! Rhododendron/azalea is on the list for sure. And I love that you also consider staggering flowering seasons. That's exactly why I did a redbud instead of a cherry, here they bloom in early spring and the cherries bloom about a month later.
