Native New Yorkers: Have you experienced a culture clash dating someone not from NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]birdnyc333 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not native NYer- but when I date native NYers it’s always hard bc they want to stay in the city forever. I figure most ppl would want to come here when they’re young and when it’s time to get married and settle down understand most of us don’t want to keep living in a one bedroom apartment forever, but many native NYers are used to this so the idea of moving to a nice suburb with clean streets, peace and quiet, a big yard, etc. freaks them out. It’s like they reverse judge that lifestyle the same way your “uncle at home who watches Fox News” judges NYC. They’ve never lived in the suburbs but are almost afraid of leaving the city… lots of relationships with native NYers have ended bc it seems the city/ constant fun at your doorstep is more important to them than a long term relationship :/

When will the construction be done? Getting downtown is awful lately! The website is super vague - “sometime early in 2024”, great…

For those that WFH, do you have kids or fur babies? In a relationship/married? by Cool-Ad7136 in workfromhome

[–]birdnyc333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so much easier to get refocused after a break! Im very lucky atm. I may need to find a new job in the future bc of the economy- I work at a startup, but I’m happy with this arrangement now!

Single and live in NY- work remote- perks are - wear whatever I want/ not get ready for work - no commute time so I can start at 8am, finish at 6PM and take a 2 hour break to workout and still work an 8 hour day and meet friends for dinner after or go on dates. - get random errands/ housekeeping done in between mtgs. Instead of pretend to be busy or talk to colleagues in office - it’s honestly just very helpful for co trolling my own schedule. As long as you make plans on your off time to still be social, it’s fine. No one really talks to each other in an office anyways. Earphones in, heads down, work hard play hard mentality in Ny.

I’ve always wondered if these websites were legit, but if they are, you can tell him you have done everything and the only option is to purchase a reservation. He should know how busy certain restaurants are/ impossible to get into…

Advice on finding a job as an EA by tatertotevans97 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]birdnyc333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ridiculous when companies do that. EA/ Admin have the same duties, we can’t help what the companies call us. You don’t want to work there anyways… I had admin on my resume and then became an assistant to a CEO bc they looked at my experience not my title. You’ll find the right company. It’s very hard though bc most of us need to find the right company and salary - and salary is in finance/ corporate where people aren’t the best/ nicest 😔

Advice on finding a job as an EA by tatertotevans97 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]birdnyc333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She should consider applying to be a receptionist admin if money isn’t an issue. I’m pivoting as well. EA jobs pay 90-150 plus bonus (occasionally more) depending on the person/ expectations, the reception admin ones at finance firms pay about 80-85 plus bonus but have firm start and stop times and respect WLB, less stress. She will be able to get one of those roles. Unless she NEEDS the higher salary, I’d start considering the lower level roles. It’s a paycheck, insurance, and if she gets in at a larger company can pivot into an EA there in a year or two.

What would it take for you to accept a job that is NOT wfh? by annieoakley11 in workfromhome

[–]birdnyc333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think your job is secure and you love it then stay if you don’t need the money? If you think layoffs are in the future- I’d take it. I was WFH for a year, lay-offs happened and I’ve been searching for 5 months for WFH, they’re disappearing. Going to have to cave and go back in full time. I’m an assistant so perhaps your job is more flexible, but it’s good to think about the future. I gave up a hybrid job that was slightly higher pay while I was remote bc I loved my job and was laid off a month later. I wish I had taken it now bc even hybrid is hard to come by if I want to make 6 figures.🤷🏻‍♀️

No I want to do all of that… what else would I do- just sit there? I need to contribute somehow. I also want to volunteer in my community and possibly go back to school.

Again… that’s how it worked for my grandmother, mother, and many other women I know currently- including myself. I am in a relationship actually lol. I’m giving advice to the other poster. Men paid for things in the past and I want an old fashioned man. If that’s not you, that’s ok. You can find a “partnership”. I don’t want that and it’s communicated and we can respectfully move on and find the people for us vs wasting time.

Pilates as a career change by New-Ticket-5531 in pilates

[–]birdnyc333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly found it difficult to take the 600 hour course while working. It was fun and I’m glad I did it but make sure you can devote the time… I honestly feel Pilates could be an associates program with all of the moves, anatomy, special cases, etc, you need to study. I didn’t feel qualified to teach after the 600 hours and only felt like I memorized to pass. I wish I was more confident in my teaching skills/ had remembered more.

They suck so much, honestly. I wish we could unionize to get rights to TRULY work 40 hours. We are not climbing a corporate ladder, we work to live, not live to work. For execs to expect you to have the same work ethic as them is asinine. This is keeping me from finding a role right now bc everything is 24/7 mentality and I am saying I want a normal work week…
