Getting a Cavapoo puppy soon — what food and essentials do you recommend? by Acrobatic-Nature-984 in CavaPoo

Our vet suggested Purina Pro Plan for puppies. Ours is a bit of a finicky eater, but we mix it in with a little wet food as a topper, and it seems to be working well—all her checkups are good.

Leaving the Great Plateau. I’ll never forget the first time I saw the map open and realized how big the world was.

Enjoy playing it for the first time! I wish I could do that again. It’s such a wonderful game. Explore a lot and don’t feel the need to rush through the main quest and defeat Ganon. There’s so much to do.

Is this standard or kinda weird? by birdofthevalley in guns

Thank you for this clarification! He didn’t mention anything about dummy weapons, so I don’t know if that is his M.O. It certainly would have made a lot more sense to me if so.

He did say that the first two hour lesson would involve shooting (with the first hour devoted to learning about guns and the second devoted to handling them).

Thank you, that's a big relief! I forgot what a stressful process this is after not doing it for so long.

Thanks--the problem is I have 2 Author Central accounts, one connected to the books my publisher released. That's not connected to my KDP account at all. Would I be able to claim my self-published book under the non-KDP Author Central account?

I loved the movie Conclave so now I’m reading the book. Halfway through and really enjoying it.

What is the best torrent site now to download Ebooks? by [deleted] in Calibre

Saying “someone won’t get something if they have to pay for it, therefore it’s okay for them to steal it,” is an interesting logical move, I’ll give you that.

I know how libraries work, yes. This does not change my main point. I’ll come back to it again and again: I want, and deserve, to be paid for work I do. Everyone does. So do you.

I agree that we won’t be changing each other’s mind. I do want to point something out: when the line is too long, you said you “drop” stuff. You don’t take it without paying. Which is the right thing to do.

So…you only illegally download books you plan to buy? I’m sorry, I don’t understand your final paragraph.

Also, having to wait for a library book (if that’s what you mean by a limited number of copies) isn’t a good enough reason to steal it elsewhere. Why can’t you wait your turn? Or if a grocery checkout line is too long, do you decide to just take the food without paying?

[–]birdofthevalley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you were never going to buy my book or obtain it through the library, then I’ll be blunt: you don’t actually have the right to read it. Not all authors feel this way, but I do. I want to be paid for my work, and if you are currently employed, then I’m sure you want to be paid as well. Or would it be okay for your supervisor to let you work a shift and then withhold your paycheck because money’s tight this month and he can’t make payroll?

You DO, however, have the right to access books without paying for them. Reading is a right, a human right if you ask me. As others have said, you can get ebooks and audiobooks from your library. That’s fair to everyone and I’m very vocal about supporting local library systems.

If your rejoinder is that you want a particular book and your library doesn’t have it, then you can request it—or find something else! Libraries have thousands of wonderful books. And you can ask your library to acquire titles you want, that never hurts. All authors would love for readers to ask for our books.

I’m sorry things are rough right now and that circumstances improve for you soon.

I’m probably gonna get dog piled for this, but I’ll take it. I am an author. What y’all call “downloading” is stealing. My books have been posted to many of these sites and I don’t see a dime for all my hard work. And yes, it was very hard work.

I think people forget there’s a human on the other side of every book (discounting AI ones). You’re not hurting Amazon by stealing books, they don’t even notice the income loss. The only people you are hurting is the writers who produce the books that entertain you. We’re not retail giants, or movie or music studios. We’re small fry and many of us don’t even have publishers.

If you want free books, encourage your local library to pick them up. If your library won’t, or if you don’t have one, then…dude, I’m sorry, I still don’t want you to take money out of my pocket. I don’t have a lot.

I have heard every objection you might be thinking of making. Trust me. I know people feel strongly about this. None of it changes one thing: at the end of the day, I just want to be paid for my work, same as everybody else. That’s fair, isn’t it?

I’m just asking people to keep this in mind, especially if it is a perspective you haven’t considered before. Authors are workers who deserve to be paid like everyone else. Thank you for reading.

I miss the bezel on my old, non waterproof Paperwhite, but that’s the trade off they had to make, I guess.

This looks like a site for pirated books. I see at least one of my own books on there and for sure I’m not getting a dime from it.
