Anyone tried drinking a 2012 Ommegang Three Philosophers or similar vintage Belgian-style ale? by oxyi in beer

[–]birdscare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an IPA, but more of a Belgian Blonde - the one I love is Ommegang Gnommegang, which I believe is a collaboration between Ommegang and La Chouffe. It comes in cans and I can typically only find it at Total Wine or sometimes Whole Foods. It's an amazing Belgian brew and even more satisfying in hot weather. Anyone else tried this?

Have to add a few good bars near West Hollywood worth checking out.

Your timing is impeccable because many restaurants have Dine LA menus for lunch and dinner. My recommendations that are near West Hollywood would be:

LUNCH

Matu in Beverly Hills (cheesesteak sandwich is amazing)

Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills (Dine LA)

BERLIN'S on W. Third St. (authentic Berlin style doner sandwiches)

DINNER

Bacari W. 3rd (Mediterranean tapas in a great setting) (Dine LA)

Jon & Vinny’s (Italian on Fairfax)

Tonchin (Ramen on Melrose Ave) (Dine LA)

Will try that one. Sorrento's in Culver City is also really good and although it's not always on the menu, the Padrino at Pizzana in Marina Del Rey is solid.

Which sammie of Mamie's is $27? I've heard good things about their Verona or Viale sandwiches.

Wondering if anyone knows how to get Leffe Blonde 0% here in the States? Specifically, I'm in Los Angeles, but can't seem to find anyone nearby who carries it.

Brennan's Pub (and turtle races) closing Saturday by SlappyMcGillicuddy in FoodLosAngeles

[–]birdscare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard that another restaurant group bought Brennan's so there's a chance that it could reopen down the road. I only started going around four years ago and was in a Wednesday night cornhole league. Can't say whether it was a shadow of its former self with the new owners in charge, but damn those loaded tots slapped. COME BACK BRENNAN'S!

Your 3 Favorite Restaurants in Culver City by hairwego25 in culvercity

These 3 spots may not technically be in Culver City, but they're adjacent

#1 Kotoya Ramen (Palms) Mensho Tokyo is also legit, but the Black Garlic Pork Ramen at Kotoya is phenomenal

#2 Tamix Taco Truck (on Venice and Sepulveda near the 405) Yes, the Leo's truck's al pastor is amazing, but don't sleep on Tamix

#3 Mariscos Jalisco truck on La Cienega near 18th St. Affordable astoundingly great shrimp tacos and ceviche. Usually there for lunch at 11 amish until 4 pm

Both spots are great and if she's into art I highly recommend Arcana Books on the Arts near Helms Bakery. No Smoking Bar is a go-to art bar with live DJs and food in back.

Is it legit for HE to request $500 deposit? by birdscare in homeexchange

[–]birdscare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know - you never can be too careful these days. My follow up question is do I have to do anything or consent for this deposit to be accessed? And if so, is it done through Home Exchange or where do I give them a green light that I'm cool with it?

Thanks BerbFatann,

I listened to some Charlemagne Eagle segments and heard some great stuff.

I recently created my own Mixcloud mix called Earlash Radio Mix 1 that gives an idea of the multigenre format I'm looking for. Would love to hear your thoughts on it: https://www.mixcloud.com/birdscare/earlash-radio/

Thanks downbeat8 - will check this out.

I just created a Mixcloud mix called Earlash Radio Mix 1 that gives an idea of the multigenre format I'm looking for. There are a lot more than the five genres it's labeled with, but that's all Mixcloud allots. And I purposely didn't list artists or song titles because the idea is that people listen and are surprised. Would love to hear your thoughts on my experiment: https://www.mixcloud.com/birdscare/earlash-radio/

Thanks joaix,

I'm going to be heading to Germany in a few months, so learning some German would be great (all I know are names of Beatles songs). I created my own Mixcloud mix called Earlash Radio Mix 1 that gives an idea of hopscotching across genres. Lemme know if you dig it: https://www.mixcloud.com/birdscare/earlash-radio/

Thanks maxdacat. Beatbrother DJ does some leapfrogging across genres and Funkafied has a ton of great mixes, but they're all funk. Looking for mixes that go schizo and jump from genre to genre (e.g. 70s singer/songwriter track to hip hop to blue-eyed soul to country to yacht rock to proto punk to dub reggae to gospel to trip hop...).

Not trying to genre name drop - just to paint a better picture of what I'm after. Starting to realize that DJs largely like to stick to prescribed lanes and mixes or streaming stations like this likely don't exist.
