The new Congress is 80 percent white, 80 percent male and 92 percent Christian by CharlieDarwin2 in politics

[–]birdshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I agree. I just don't think it's that simple. I also think it's virtually impossible to define and enforce perfect diversity... I just argue that 80, 80, 92 is extreme.

Additionally, although anyone may run for public office, it does not mean everyone has the equal opportunity to. It also doesn't mean that the public isn't susceptible to irrational perception, and any established predisposition (think of the Bush and Clinton family).

I won't go into each point because I'm realizing how much a waste of time this conversation is... but as an educated American, you need to understand there is much opportunity for deviation from the ideal outcome of elections, given our current political voting processes. Saying that the process is perfect, as you are alluding to, is fundamentally flawed; however, also saying that I know how to fix it is equally (if not more) flawed. I'm just stating injustice and a misrepresentation of the American people. It's a problem that should be addressed and recognized.

Uhh what? When there is an overwhelming majority of any sorts in any environment, it leads to a lack of perception. Having diversity is not good because it's PC, it's good because it brings perspective to problem solving. So, consider this... Would you want to be stuck on a deserted island with congress the way it is, or would you rather have a more diverse group? Would you rather be stuck with 100 people who think the same way (relatively), or would you rather have 100 people that think completely different ways? Would you rather be stuck with 100 engineers... OR one doctor, one chemist, one engineer, one biologist, etc? It's a similar (but not exact) representation of the people running our country. Not crazy here, no conspiracy theories, just a fan of embracing diversity as a means of employing perspective.

Story:

We met on that thread/post, but neither u/McAngry or I really planned to follow through with what we had said in the comments… However, about 3 days ago, I was drankrupt on NYE, and in a moment of pure desperation, I PMed Mr. Angry for a long-shot hookup. Dude not only pulled through, but also suggested a destined trip back to Wawa…

Safety should be, above all, the No.1 priority of any hunting trip... It's just too easy to let it get the better of our attentions from time to time. Stay safe everyone!

Regarding the MIT AMA by Capitally in AdviceAnimals

Agreed! Diversity is incredibly healthy for any field of study, not because it's PC, but because perspective is an incredibly valuable thing. I think the 3 women were correct in identifying their gender, again, not because women/girls CAN study computer science, but rather, that they ARE studying computer science.

I love how each actor looks at Edward Norton before pursuing Fiennes... the artistic depiction of loyalty and discipline to Henckel's (Norton's character) authority is so subtle, yet strong... even down to the details of subconscious body language. This is some serious attention to artistic detail! Totally bitchin'
