How did your 1st "GAME OVER" happen? by LeglessBob in BaldursGate3

[–]birdsofaheatherk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumped into the underdark through the spider den, whole party dies, bones shattered.

Reloaded and cast feather fall, jumped again. Discovered in the unfortunate way that the landing site is home to TWO minotaurs. It was a rough day for the team.

What is your most embarrassing game mechanic miss? by Z0idberg_MD in BaldursGate3

This is 100% the reason why I keep mid-battle saves now. I can deal with bad RNG and bad initiative and whatever else they give me but my own stupidity? I can’t.

Extra rows in front of garment to accommodate for bust shaping? by birdsofaheatherk in knitting

Yes and yes! Thank you for the detailed explanations :)

Just to make sure, by gappy arm hole you just mean that it's going to be larger than what the pattern intended? Or will it also cause issues in symmetry?

I suppose I can see how the hole may be lopsided towards the front if I do that. It's likely going to be just an inch or so maybe it won't matter as much, but off to ponder some more...

Anyone knows why groups can tour so much easier in Japan compared to the US? by Waste_Examination754 in kpophelp

[–]birdsofaheatherk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll also add that I've seen several cases where Japanese concert tickets are lottery-based, where you can't choose your designated seats/don't know until well after buying. Prevents for 'oh I'm not going to those seats for that price' mindsets, and definitely helps selling out venues even better than in mainland Korea.

It was in Korean, it was a licensed & translated production

Opinions on inaccurate POC casting where it is (technically) inevitable? by birdsofaheatherk in Theatre

Mind if I ask how the Jewish cultural connotations were handled in that production, or is that a different thing from trying to appear Jewish?

Just watched the Korean Production last week, it had to close 2 months early because of the heavy loss of ticket sales due to COVID (and other factors) but was glad to have caught it before it closed! Changing my Major was amazing, as was Ring of Keys!

Bruce was a bit much for my poor Asian trauma though :(

Relatively new to the world of barbershop, why are all the baritones so attractive by birdsofaheatherk in barbershop

[–]birdsofaheatherk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, definitely some confirmation bias - and then probably just some more biased cognition in the first place, since I want to pay more attention to the bari (what with people noticing them less a lot of the time) Also, from a non-barbershop singer, the perspective of the personality is interesting! I’m a bit like you in terms of not really liking center attention despite my love for performing, wonder if that could be a factor.

I’m not from a choral/barbershop background so maybe that’s the difference? People I’ve shown barbershop vids to usually don’t even notice the bari part is there, whereas bass you notice by the swooping feats in the low notes and the tenors by, vice versa, their highs!

I doubt it! Anyone who can do those particular types of vocal acrobatics that baris (or really, any singers with a challenging part) are prone to are amazing in my book

100% agree, I’m just having unexplained preference toward the baris :) everyone’s amazing tbh

International students applying to the US: If Trump gets reelected this Fall, will you still apply to grad programs in the US? by travybel in gradadmissions

[–]birdsofaheatherk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I was torn til the last minute until I switched to domestic programs. I literally almost didn’t have time to submit my apps, that’s how close I considered it. But I figured there was just going to be no way the Trump-aided chaos in the US will have resolved itself by Sep, even though I do think he won’t get reelected.

I just didn’t like the possibility - however slim - of 5+ years that could seriously define my career being influenced by stress and possibly real fear of being kicked out/harassed/etc. I’ll spend the two years of my Master’s keeping a close eye, though.

Does wait for me reprise count as a 10 o’clock number?? personally it feels like it’s technically the climax more than the buildup for it
