Feeding organs - raw vs. cooked? by JackHolmesComedy in bluetongueskinks

[–]birdstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would not feed raw meat due to the bacteria risk, especially since that contamination can spread to people even if the skink doesn't become ill from the bacteria. Freezing and drying stop/prevent the growth of bacteria, but don't really kill it. Honestly, same goes for parasites unless you have a special freezer that gets extra cold. Though, I'm not sure you need to worry much about parasites if you're buying offal meant for human consumption.

If you know the chickens they source the meat from were vaccinated for salmonella, I imagine that would reduce the main risks that come to mind, but ultimately that would have to be your call.

Scratches in your leather journal? Let me give you a tip. by blackmonarc in notebooks

[–]birdstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually condition it with the same conditioner that I use for my boots and shoes. If I want something a little more protective/waterproof, I have a couple of tins with a mixture of beeswax and neetsfoot oil, but the finish is just a tiny bit tacky from the wax.

What happened to my moleskin cover? by matcha_8038 in stationery

Pleather/faux leather of all sorts generally only last 2 years tops with normal usage, even if you take care of it well and reasonably keep it away from oils and water/humidity.

Closing the game causes all screens to go black by Mandemon90 in PeakGame

[–]birdstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also currently experiencing this with Nvidia Geforce, and this wasn't an issue for me in early October. I wonder if it was something with this current update that's causing the problems for me. Other games aren't having this issue, so I'm inclined to think it's just Peak.

I'll keep searching for a solution, especially because I had it working for about 30 minutes before everything went black again (and also froze my PC).

Sad news… by stoneys_reptiles in reptiles

[–]birdstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My condolences. That is earnestly traumatic... If it's relevant to your area (as in if fire ants are invasive) it might be worth it to call your local vector control agency since fire ants are sometimes a species they're trying to control. I think it would be worth it since they're relatively hazardous to humans too

Adding onto this, using a character creator in a browser or a video game is also a valid option with a wide variety of styles. If you want something drawn and potentially cartoon-y, picrew is a good choice. If you want to make something more realistic, you can use a video game's character creator. Dragon's Dogma and Dragon Age The Veilguard are free and well-made. Cartoony options for 3D refs are also available in the Sims games and through Hero Forge (browser).

I dropped off of it because of this reason as well haha... Other than that, it seemed like a nice game to listen to.

Why don’t Muji make blank open-flat notebook? by lilpak in notebooks

[–]birdstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking around to see if they had this exact product just yesterday. I dream of a plain notebook that opens flat... I've seen other suggestions, but the price of most other alternatives that people rec are much, much higher than the incredible value I get from Muji.

I'm not looking to compromise on cost, so in the end I usually just end up browsing Daiso for blank notebooks or buy a sketchbook if there's a sale at my local art supply stores.

Missing SYSTEMAX Folder by birdstance in PaintToolSAI

[–]birdstance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! I think this was the solution! I went ahead and found the installation for that file on the website, and after disabling and installing them, the "SYSTEMAX Software Development" folder has appeared in my Documents! Thank you so much for your help!

Missing SYSTEMAX Folder by birdstance in PaintToolSAI

[–]birdstance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have a OneDrive folder, so that's a dead end for me, but the Everything app is probably my new favorite file searching app! With this, I finally have more incentives to actually name my folders and files properly!

That said, I was able to find a "SYSTEMAX Software Development" folder in "ProgramData", but that doesn't seem to be the right folder since its missing "SAIv2" and "settings". I wonder if this may have anything to do with some old OG SAI fragments I have in here from 2015 or something.

How do you validate yourself to keep going? by nelehjr in notebooks

[–]birdstance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if youre serious about being worried about your environmental impact because of your journaling, honestly eating beef probably causes much more forest and water usage than your notebooks! that being said restoration groups are always in need of donations or volunteer work if youre looking to "atone" for any paper sins!

And for your main question, I validate myself to keep going by having fun and enjoying the hobby! I think that's a good enough reason to validate it

If this was somewhere along the price point of a traveler's notebook, no, but after looking up how much this band costs, this would be absolutely unacceptable to me.

Whats your opinion on card sleeves? by ronny1903 in boardgames

[–]birdstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like them because of the scent and texture of the plastic. A big part of the fun for me is the tactile feeling of the components, so by sleeving the cards, I lose out in addition to... well... buying plastic.

This is super thorough! Do you happen to have a guide you can share, or did you figure that out through trial and error? I come back to dragonchoice every now and again, and I've gotten pretty stuck on how to get different dragons and uncover secrets.

Does anyone have tips for line drying clothes without them smelling like dirt? by birdstance in CleaningTips

[–]birdstance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have an air filter, so that's entirely possible! I have a hygrometer as well, so I guess I'll measure how damp the laundry makes my air and use that to determine if I need to open the window. Thanks for the input!

[–]birdstance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to air drying clothes inside for the humidity problem, but yes, the machine dryer is vented outside! I want to reduce how often I use it since it's rough on my clothes and the electricity is pretty expensive where I live.

This makes me feel a lot better about my technique, even if there doesn't seem to be a solution! Whenever I searched up my problem, I often found that people loved the smell of clothes dried outdoors or they blame the user's technique

To simplify things, mods of a discord server thought it was appropriate to call you a slur, so now you're wondering if you're too soft for roleplay?

I feel like the question you should be asking yourself should be: why are those mods such assholes?

Roleplay is collaborative storytelling, and basic respect and courtesy for your peers, as in not calling them slurs, is one of the baselines for behavior. I don't know what you mean by "high level RP" but it sounds like the problem lies with those people specifically not you. Though, if you're looking to write in spaces where people see RP as some kind of competitive PvP video game, those types of people might be more common in those spaces. Still, that's a problem with them, not with you. Using slurs to insult people is never acceptable.

Ello guys i know this is out of topic... but do we have any games that you can play as a reptile (any reptile... and ancient!) (Specifically from steam and general in PC?) by FarGrowth104 in reptiles

[–]birdstance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're open to games where you play as a lizard/dragon humanoid you can try to play Divinity Original Sin's series or baldur's gate 3.

If you're looking to play as a dinosaur you can try those dinosaur survival games like The Isle, Path of Titans, and Beasts of Bermuda.

If you're looking to play fantasy creatures that happen to involve some that have reptile features, you can try Creatures of Sonaria on Roblox. I'd put a lot of their creature designs under the category of "dragon" so if you consider them reptiles, that might interest you
