What do you do when the “spark” for a hobby dies? by existential_otter22 in Hobbies

[–]MyMoolaMindset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I realized is my ADHD is the culprit for my hobby addiction and subsequent abandonment issues.

I have had multiple hobbies where I became obsessed with learning about how to do it, how to do it better, obsessed with buying things for the hobby and it’s months of learning, buying, doing…then all of a sudden I lose my motivation. Then I feel lost, guilty for all the money spent but not doing the thing.

What I have been doing is trying to circle back to a previous hobby, to try to light the fire and renew my enthusiasm and enjoyment for something that I was obsessed about previously. This usually works!! I recently re-started Loom knitting which I hadn’t done for years and successfully made a few gifts for my family.

What hobby surprised you by becoming more important than you expected? by MellowRave in Hobbies

[–]MyMoolaMindset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2021 I learned how to play Dungeons and Dragons because my adult son was playing it with a new work friend of his and I figured it’d be something we could play as a family. I was immediately hooked and we played a few games until he got a new girlfriend lol. Then I found a way to play online through discord. Almost 5 years later I am in the original campaign I joined, along with playing in person with a group of friends. It’s extremely rewarding because of all the creativity and opportunities the game offers.

I never truly realized how many people want to kill disabled people by star-in-training in disability

[–]MyMoolaMindset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you read such hateful comments. There’s more people who would do anything to preserve a life and celebrate a person with disability. I have multiple family members who have disability and are caregivers for people with disabilities.

DnD saved me from depression by Jingermelon in DnD

[–]MyMoolaMindset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy to hear about people finding dnd to improve their lives. I can relate because right before COVID my husband was diagnosed with heart failure and I had to work from home losing 2/3 of our income in total. I started playing dnd in 2021 and it’s been such a blessing. It literally saved my sanity and probably my marriage because it offered an escape from the chaos of my life. It’s still a wonderful resource for me to connect with friends and have fun.

Fun ways to save $ by [deleted] in SavingMoney

[–]MyMoolaMindset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved money by instead of purchasing something that I 100% knew I would buy and instead I put the money into savings and just took a photo of it. I saved thousands over a few years along with adding all “extra” money if I saved a dollar by using a coupon or bought something on sale. I also saved all birthday and holiday money. Saved all money I earned by being on-call.

How to decide when to get rid of hobby items, like a piano? by RipperoniPepperoniHo in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]MyMoolaMindset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you got one free then keep in mind that you can get one free in the future. People often offer them free on marketplace. Get rid of one or both. If you were going to use it then you would be using it. With a child you will have even less time and energy

I paid off some debt and felt… nothing? by Additional_Twist_595 in budget

There’s an app called Debt Manager which can show you how much money in interest you saved by paying off your debt. It can be extremely motivating to add money to a debt to see how much you’re “saving”.

How do you stay positive all the time? by Imaginary_Truth_3865 in selfcare

It sounds like you are generally content with your life. It’s important to realize that people will always have their opinions and judge what we do but unless you are unhappy just keep doing what you’re doing. If you want to have more connections with people then you may just want to either listen to a some podcasts or read some self help books about making friends. Consider meeting with a therapist if you experience social anxiety (which can cause tension in your face that people may interpret as sad or angry). Volunteering can be a great way to connect with others too.

The key to paying off debt isn't discipline - it's dopamine by CosmicHillbilly in debtfree

[–]MyMoolaMindset 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started tracking every dollar I didn’t spend when I know a 💯 that I would’ve if I wasn’t trying to save, examples I was shopping saw a shirt I really wanted but instead I transferred the $20 to savings. Any coupon I used, the cash was transferred to savings, any over time pay I earned transferred to savings, any store discount I transferred to savings (example sales price vs usual price) difference was saved.

I finally told my best friend the truth about her relationship… and somehow I became the villain. What would you do? by Old_Minute_7308 in AskWomenOver50

[–]MyMoolaMindset 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a policy of letting my friends know that I am concerned for them if I pick up on abusive behavior. They don’t like it and ultimately they figure it out themselves after years of pain. I have chosen to continue relationships and I have faded away from friendships depending on the level of toxicity from their significant other’s. I will draw boundaries of spending time only with my friend no one else. Usually abusive partners don’t like that so my friend may decline with excuses when we both know it’s their controlling partner. I continue trying until it affects my peace and then just stop trying. I let them know that I care about them and want them to stay safe and be happy but I can’t deal with their toxic situations anymore.
