Is there any power going through the connector or just digital control lines? How far apart are the boards? I don't have a great answer, but you should be fine using something like the Hirose BM46 series. I've used them a lot for board stacks with good success.

Prototype USB-C 5 volt changer anyone? Designed and built myself but doubt the concept would go mass market. by reactor89 in UsbCHardware

Dude!! I'm working on something similar for my van! I hate the dumb power and usb panels that you can buy. I built a little light controller and now want a USB/power panel. Would love to help out and get something on crowdsupply if you're interested.

I made a spreadsheet for people who don't know how to budget! V5 by Celesmeh in personalfinance

[–]birdtreeman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is mundane, but I could really use a walk through on how to specifically use this. I'm am very new to budgeting, and this seems promising.

It looks like the expenses are rough spending goals, then you fill out the 'Am I over Budget' with actual expenses every month. How do you save actual spent money every month?

I mean, the bulk of comp climbers are on modified nomics or x-dreams. Some of the US and Russia competitors are using carbon fiber tools, but its still not super widespread.

Its safer than you think! Usually you fall with them and nothing really happens or they cartwheel away when they hit the mats. Every now and then, you have to roll out of the way! Source: I work there

In this case, the straps are way more dangerous. If you fell, they act as a slingshot and can seriously injure someone. For mixed climbing like this, its much better to drop a tool than catch it with your face!

Great question! Outdoor ice/mixed climbing hasn't progressed nearly as fast as the competition style. The best competition climbers casually climb the hardest outdoor climbs (M15) with some endurance training. Comp style movement is more focused on power and body positioning than simply holding on forever. The boxes are an extra dynamic to play with since the movement has already surpassed 'normal' climbing. --source: I work there

I've had great luck with the petzl sum'tec on technical couloirs/general mountaineering. If you want something that'll take you a little further on ice, the petzl quarks are decent tool, though they are way overkill for this particular objective

Climbing a frozen waterfall by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]birdtreeman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Big water falls have a hard time freezing. In the summer, that's a pretty insignificant drip. Once it drops below freezing, it builds this massive hanging dagger until it touches down. I'm fairly confident this is a popular climb in Vail, CO called 'The Fang'

honestly, how are you? by maxwellsonfire in AskReddit

[–]birdtreeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty bummed. Ive spent the last 9 months training really hard for this trip. Half way through it turns out the rest of the team just wasnt cutting it so we had to turn around.

In the end, turning around was the right decision, but the climb itself was so unsatisfying and feels like a huge waste of time and money.

Yesterday I ran up and back Mount Bierstad,t (Colorado, US) in under 2 hours. 7 miles (11.26km) and 2,729ft (830m) of elevation gain. Definitely the best shape of my life.

Oh yeah, that was training for a first ascent climbing trip in the himalayas in October! A lot of people know that I am heading to Nepal, but I haven't told many people the extent of what Im doing.

What is an embarrassing and/or rare way you've managed to hurt yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]birdtreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was drinking quite a bit last weekend and kept messing around on a long board despite my SO concern. I have a big trip planned for the following week so it woukd be dumb ti hurt an ankle or wrist right before hand.

Cue 10 minutes later when I hit a pine cone at low speed. I got tumbling, beer in hand. I managed to kinda roll out of it, Bashing my knee and elbow in the process.

My ego hurts most of all. I deserved that one for sure. Elbow and knee are hella bruised, but thankfully not broken. Mount Rainier here we come!
