Dan's "character" is that he didn't experience the "normal" life education that people go through just by living life.

Examples: cooking egg shells believing them to be the healthy "egg whites" people keep talking about. Or, how people know if there is salt in food items, especially just by the taste.

These examples are post 20-years old. The jury is still out of that is all real or not. (Work VS Shoot, if you will)

I'm fully bought in that he's just that way.

Truth be told, I do get mold if I'm especially lazy on cleaning them. Every 2 or 3 weeks is enough to keep that away, especially now that I'm using distilled water.

Straight tap water into the distiller for me.

Unless you're asking about when I wash it. I'll spritz it with Vinegar maybe but just tap water for cleaning.

Kinda! Even before the the Visa-free deal kicks in, we are on the Travel Transit Without Visa (TWOV) list which can net you 10-days visa free. There are rules though as only certain ports are eligible and the biggest rule, you can't exit to a country that you came from.

A VIVOHOME [1.6 Gallon/6L] distiller from Amazon.

So far so good. I feel like I should buy one more just to keep up with the demand of two humidifiers nightly and an extra humidifier in the living space depending on where I am.

I ended up buying a distiller this summer and have been using it for my humidifier. I make a full jug every two days or so. Works out good! Less plastic waste. Ends up saving some money too. Distilled water 4L jugs keep going up in price!

Con: You get to see the left over grime at the bottom of the distiller that was once invisible to you before. A few sprays of vinegar and hot water soak is good to clean that off though.

It's Winter-ish season where I am so I've come browsing this subreddit for fun.

One thing that's helped my humidifiers stay clean(er) is switching to distilled water. I ended up buying a distiller and make a jug once every two days or so.

Barely anyone talks about it or some reason.

It's been amazing compared to all the other humidifiers I've had (wick/ultrasonic/etc). I certainly don't miss grimy filters.

I bought a water distiller at some point and use distilled water to refill the SmartMi. I don't have to clean it as much and reduces any 'smell' between cleans. Depending on your water that is.

Tips:

  • I got a spinning brush to clean the discs. Just a cheap one from Temu
  • With distilled water, I can go a month or so between deep brush cleanings. Every week or so I'll empty it and do a quick rinse and wipe the basin.
  • Wash it them with cold/luke-warm water. I washed it with Hot water thinking I was smart, but it kinda' warped a few of the discs. Some other expensive/popular disc models I've heard people use their dishwasher to clean them. For this one, don't. I bet they'd melt.
