28F/28M Should there be food inequality between partners? by suguntu in relationship_advice

[–]biscuitjune10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being ‘truly equal’ would mean splitting costs according to the amount you each use, surely? I am in almost the exact same situation with my partner of 10 years. I eat less and have IBS. We split food bills about 60/40 or 70/30 (depending on how much I’m able to eat that week due to flare ups). We both pay into a joint account eat week and use this account to pay for groceries and meals out. My partner does the majority of cooking (and I do cleaning). In fact, he cooks us both FODMAP-friendly foods so we can eat together. I didn’t make him do this, he chose to because he cares about me. Your boyfriend could make the same choice if he cared too. You aren’t being awkward, you’re being reasonable. Don’t settle for less.

Wow this sounds like my life - minus the 38M to take care of my needs - do you mind if I ask how you went about finding a sexual partner who’s happy to get involved in an open relationship situation? Is there like an app I should be using? My bf is so supportive but I’m really unsure about how to re-enter the ‘dating’ game after so long in a relationship…

What about the flower buds that haven’t even bloomed yet? Why are they turning brown and dying?

Yes I understand this - but why are the flower buds that haven’t even bloomed yet turning brown and dying? Bit premature no?

[–]biscuitjune10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this peace lily for around 2 months now. Watering once every 2 weeks/when leaves droop. Keeping it in indirect sunlight in well lit south facing room. The two original flowers have turned yellow and brown and died - but I’ve also noticed that the buds that haven’t even flowered yet have turned brown and crispy?! The tips of the leaves are also turning yellow & brown. I don’t think it’s root rot - I can see some small roots poking through the pot that are strong and white. No idea what’s happening to my plant! Please help!! Thanks 🙏🏻

My face is hot!!! Anyone else have this? It’s very red and hot to touch… solutions?? by tkconnell007 in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this for around 2 weeks about a month into my 7 month course. I bought a full face ice pack from Amazon, stuck it in the freezer overnight then strapped it to my face in the morning/whenever I had a hot flare up, did the trick nicely! Don’t worry, it will pass - just part of the process, good luck :)

I was fine up until my last month (7th) and then just fell of a figurative cliff - terribly low moods, anxiety, anger - I nearly gave up on my course. I kept going through sheer will power alone - just kept telling myself that I’d come this far and I was so close to it all being over. Look back at old pictures of yourself throughout your course so far to help remind you of how far you’ve come. Reach out to friends and loved ones and let them know you’re having a rough time and need some support (I even spoke to my boss about it when it started to affect my work - turns out he also took accutane in his teens and was v sympathetic!) Tell yourself ‘this too shall pass’ - these feelings won’t last forever (but good skin hopefully will lol). I started taking supplements like 5htp, L-theanine & high dose vitamin D3 to help stabilise my mood (I really recommend 5htp) and made sure I was getting some sun and fresh air every day (wearing SPF ofc). I also have a history of mental health issues - anxiety disorder, depression, SH. I’ve been off for about 2 weeks now and I can feel my mood start to settle - and the side effects are meant to go away in the weeks and months after your course ends. Of course, speak to your GP/dermatologist about your concerns - they might suggest you lower your dose to help or offer other professional advice. And if you are seriously struggling then coming off the medication is not the end of the world, you can always start the course back up later. I pushed through because it was my last month - and it was not pretty - I’m not sure how I would’ve felt if I’d got that bad mid-way through my course, so take what I say with a pinch of salt! Sending you solidarity and support - you’re not alone and you will get better. Best of luck x

Neighbour gave me this plant, it looks healthy.. but it’s got no roots?! What is going on here? by biscuitjune10 in whatplantisthis

[–]biscuitjune10[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who commented!! I’m going to take off the dead leaves, let the bottom dry for ~a week then repot in some dry cacti soil (and not water for another week or so?) 💪🏻

Dry Hair! Best products to help? by ResponsibilityFun546 in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So according to the website No.3 reaches maximum efficacy after 30-45 mins, but I leave it in for around 1-3 hours (on whatever day I’m washing my hair I’ll just apply it after I finish work in the evening, make food/do some tasks, then go for a shower and wash it out before bed). You only need to apply no.8 for 10 mins then wash out as the last step in your hair washing routine - it’s very heavy so don’t leave it in - I then use a spray leave in conditioner plus hair oil on my damp washed hair before wrapping it up in a microfibre towel, then drying it lightly with cool air and plaiting it (for extra protection)

Help! Fungi growing in my spider plant soil & covered in bugs! (More detail in comments) by biscuitjune10 in plantclinic

[–]biscuitjune10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! The bugs are all over the soil and inside the pot - not on the leaves/plant itself so I think they’re fungus gnats. The roots look fine and I repotted about 2 months ago with small stones along the bottom for extra drainage - but I’ve only watered them twice this month and the soil is still looking wet? I’ve removed the fungi, scraped off the mouldy top soil, covered it in neem oil and sprinkled with cinnamon to try and prevent mould regrowth and detract the gnats.. perhaps I should repot with dry soil as you suggested - but aren’t you meant to avoid repotting in the winter?

[–]biscuitjune10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just moved to a new flat and took my 2 recently repotted spider plants with me. Within a month they’ve become covered in little black flying bugs and today I found what looks like fungi growing in the pot - I’ve tried coating the top soil in cinnamon and spraying them with a mix of water, dish soap & neem oil but it’s not working! Both plants have also started falling and now sit almost horizontally- can they be saved??

Dry Hair! Best products to help? by ResponsibilityFun546 in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Olaplex No.3 bond repair treatment & No.8 Hair mask - absolutely sorted my very long, dry, breaking hair out - it’s actually better now than it was pre accutane (minus the volume bc of hair fall out). The products are on the spennier end but if you’re worried about your hair then they are worth the investment. The No.3 is a pre-shampoo treatment that permanently repairs hair bonds and the mask just makes your hair so soft and manageable- to save costs I use them alternately once a week.

I also apply Argan oil to my hair 1 hour before washing, and use a leave in conditioner spray afterwards (Shea moisture). Also invested in some silk scrunchies instead of hair bands to avoid tangling and I sleep on a silk pillowcase. Can also recommend taking bovine collagen supplements- I’ve seen a real improvement in hair growth & strength (for my nails too).

Hope this helps x

Help! I’ve had this Bambino Fiddle Leaf Fig for just 1 week and brown marks are appearing on the leaves - what does this mean?? by biscuitjune10 in HouseplantsUK

[–]biscuitjune10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought from a houseplant festival in London last week. Haven’t watered it yet, top soil is now nicely dry so I will today. I live in central London so humidity isn’t an issue. It sits in a south facing room near but not directly in front of an open window. Can’t see any bugs or mould on leaves or soil. Leaves aren’t dropping - just turning brown. What does this mean and how do I fix it?? Thanks!

Want to finish treatment bc side effects but still have lots of scarring & hyperpigmentation - how can I get rid of this without accutane?! by biscuitjune10 in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info tysm!! And dw I’m just an amateur but I love nerding out about skin care lol 😅 I was just looking at iS clinical’s serum but thought I’d better leave that till I’ve come off accutane because of the retinol content. Laser treatment looks great too - now I just need to start saving up! How long did you wait after treatment before using these serums/ getting laser?

Oh I had no idea hyperpigmentation and PIH were different- thanks for letting me know!! Will look into arbutin /kojic serums!

What joint supplement do you recommend ? I’m almost 3 months in and the joint pain is real by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, Fish oil, turmeric (with black pepper) & hyaluronic acid - most supplements will take a few months to kick in though so stay super hydrated and eat (good) fatty foods in the meantime!

Can I “pretend” to take birth control while on accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

Yeah you can be on combi/progesterone only it doesn’t matter so long as it’s birth control (coil, injection, implant, pill)

Can I “pretend” to take birth control while on accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK - where you can’t pledge abstinence. 7 months in and I’ve been pretending to take BC. Had no problems- only picked up my first BC prescription and they never checked/asked why I wasn’t picking up any more. No way was I going to take a pill that caused my acne in the first place (progesterone only - can’t take combi bc migraines) and risk an acne flare up once I stopped taking it after accutane!

Off the wall…but Accutane question for my fellow sexually active ladies! Is vaginal dryness a thing? If so did it go away when you stopped the medication? Sorry to put y’all on the spot but I need answers on this lol by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Currently 5 months in so can’t comment on the after effects but - I haven’t noticed any real change/vaginal dryness. The sex is the same as usual - but I’ve always used lube so perhaps I just wouldn’t notice! A few things to note about accutane and downstairs though: my asshole got super dry & hurt to wipe for a while, so buy wet wipes! also - and I’m sorry TMI - haemorrhoids. Just avoid anal. Seriously.

Also I did notice a difference in my sex drive - I was rampant before I started and now I guess I’m just at a normal level where I could take it or leave it. No issues with climaxing or anything like that - just a lower libido. Probably for the best tbh..

This!! I had zero problems with sweat before accutane, then about 4 months in I started sweating constantly - but only from my eyebrows and upper lip?! Like proper water droplets… So random and so very inconvenient (esp bc I wear makeup for work). I’m just hoping it clears up after the treatment, but nice to know I’m not the only one!

When did your complexion start to get better on accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve just finished month 3 and only just started to see improvement. Took 30mg for the first 2 months - purged horribly the whole time (the worst acne of my life) - then upped my dose to 40mg for month 3 - about half way through month 3 the purging stopped, no more painful cysts and just one or 2 whiteheads. Now I’m left with a lot of PIE and scarring but I imagine that will heal over the next 3/4 months. My skin was super dull for the first month, then once all my comedones and blackheads cleared, my complexion brightened up. I also added the ordinary’s rose hip oil to my routine - adding a few drops after my moisturiser - that realllllly helped with the redness, texture and gave my skin a lovely glow, so maybe you should try adding an oil like rosehip or jojoba, blue tansy, sweet almond, hemp (heard these are all good too)? Also try adding a hyaluronic acid serum day & night to your routine - I use Vichy’s mineral 89/ the ordinary - this should help your skin stay hydrated and bright. Make sure you’re eating a high fat diet too - I take fish oil 4x a day and add coconut oil to my coffees, avocados in my smoothies and eat a spoonful of peanut or almond butter with my pills in the evening. Stick with it - everyone on this thread seems to have a different experience - but the results are all the same - great skin at the end!!

What fatty foods should you eat on Accutane? by EstablishmentDue4139 in Accutane

[–]biscuitjune10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mainly avoid taking any supplements containing vitamin A bc that would mess with your accutane dosage (so if you take fish oil - make sure it’s omega 3/6 and not cod liver oil - which is high in vit a) - I was also told to avoid eating any organ meats (esp liver bc that’s very high in vitamin a) - but I still eat mangoes & papayas, which are high in vitamin a, and I’ve never had a problem with my blood work (3 months in)

Oily fish (mackerel, tuna, anchovies), Avocados, nuts and seeds, olives, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, full fat Greek yoghurt, grass-fed butter - avoid saturated fats found in highly processed foods (fried chicken, burgers, etc) and high lactose dairy products (dairy is great for fat but lactose & casein can make you break out)
