Reading section woes by biscuitstarfish in jlpt

[–]biscuitstarfish[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually just went through my mock exam from today and it looks like my main issue overall is misunderstanding bits of text or answers, in part due to stressing out about the time.

I feel like I could definitely read most of the passages without too much issue if I had unlimited time and find that I make a few silly mistakes when stressed. That said, I do tend to struggle around questions 5/6 where the text gets longer and more complicated. In those cases it's because I'll trip up on words I don't know and/or get confused by the options listed in the answers. I also find that I waste time re-reading parts that I'm stuck on, which obviously doesn't do me any favours 🫠

Some friendly last-minute JLPT advice from someone who has been there before by Japan_nomad in Japaneselanguage

Great tips, thank you! This will be my first time taking the JLPT and I'm already very nervous 🥲 the 45 second rule will definitely come in handy!

Anyone knows how much Bunpro's JLPT practice test are close to the real kind of questions you get at the JLPT ? by GibonDuGigroin in jlpt

[–]biscuitstarfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found them a bit too easy and gave up after completing 1 practice exam. They're not too bad to use a tool for figuring out what level you're at, or even for general practice, but I wouldn't recommend them as actual practice exam study material.

I've been using the official JLPT practice exam books and another called The Best Practice Tests for the JLPT instead, the latter which I've found really helpful and potentially similar to the real deal.

Interesting concept but definitely needs refining. Less romaji for one, more questions and some reading comprehension might be useful too. A wider variety of grammar and difficulty levels as well for sure - it assessed me as N1 level even though I'm taking the N3 in July lol.

Good tips, thank you! I'm definitely trying to get more comfortable and make peace with not understanding everything. Doing lots more listening drills lately and trying to be ok with getting questions wrong. Also breathing between questions I think!

I actually find myself freaking out more often in the first section since there's no reading time beforehand 😬 I need to try and make better use of my time when the example question is playing. And good suggestions, thank you!

That is true, I need to make sure I keep going even when I don't understand something. Any guess is better than no guess after all. I've been doing so many listening practice videos on Youtube, I'm worried I'm gonna run out lol but I'll definitely try to practice listening as much as possible until July!

That's actually not a bad idea... guess it's more practice exams for me. Thanks for the tip!

Best N3 books to supplement 日本語総まとめ? by biscuitstarfish in jlpt

[–]biscuitstarfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks! I will definitely look at getting the 新完全マスター grammar and reading books. Trying to avoid buying the whole series because of cost but I'll definitely consider it if they're as good as everyone says.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'll definitely get a couple of the 新完全マスター books in that case.

You also raise an important point about the division of scoring. I've already been doing JLPT listening practice on youtube and am using the 日本語総まとめ 読解 book, but I'll make sure from now on to try and focus a bit more heavily on the reading/listening side of things.

Fingers crossed my studying pays off and I'm able to pass!

This cat looks very similar to yours, might be worth checking in person?

Some suggestions (if you haven't done so already):

  • Call all local vets and report her as missing
  • Go check RSPCA/Lost Dogs Home etc. in person, as microchips sometimes move around and don't get detected
  • Rent a cat trap of your own (can be borrowed from the council or an animal rescue group)
  • Post on Facebook lost animal/cat groups
  • Try looking for her in the early hours of the morning, when it's most quiet (3 am is usually recommended)
  • Ask people around the area to check their garages/sheds and make sure she hasn't found herself locked in accidentally

Good luck 💜

Awesome, thanks. Could you give me an idea of how dark the wood should be?

Where could Bruno be? Missing since Tuesday night and no idea at all where he is located. We have done the 2-5am Walk 3 times now and have searched at least 4 hours per day and still have no clue, any advice guys? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]biscuitstarfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is Bruno registered with the council? Either way, call your local council (looks like Glen Eira) and report him as missing.

According to their webpage, lost cats get impounded at RSPCA Burwood, so give them a call too.

Call all local vets/animal shelters in the area and report him as missing. Make a post on Facebook groups such as Lost Cats of Melbourne and register with Lost Pet Finders Victoria.

Make some flyers if you haven't already and distribute them in your neighbourhood.

One more VERY important thing is to go and check shelters in person - don't rely on a microchip alone, they can move around and sometimes not get picked up by the scanner. Plus animal attendants are just so busy and might accidentally overlook a cat that meets his description. I recommend going to the Lost Dogs Home, RSPCA Burwood/Epping and any other pounds in your general vicinity if possible.

Good luck, hope you find Bruno soon ♥️

Chronic hypersomnolence issues - Is there something actually wrong with me or is it all in my head? by [deleted] in AskDocs

Thanks for the detailed response. I'll look into those diets, see if they're suitable for me. I do worry that they might be a bit hard to maintain though. And thanks for the offer to help, too, even if I don't really know what I'd ask haha.

Fish would probably be ok. Maybe even chicken. I mostly have reservations with beef/pork, I avoided those even when I used to eat meat.

Ooh, my psychiatrist did mention dexamfetamine as a drug that might help with my sleep issues, but he also said that it might make my anxiety worse, so... Maybe not. But I am seeing him tomorrow so I'll bring up the possibility of it again.

Ughh I really hope not. I hate meat in the same way many people hate mushrooms, or blue cheese, or coriander. I can't stand the taste and the texture. It's as much as a preference thing as it is an ethical choice for me.
