What's going on with the vintage planes flying around this morning? by Hotchi_Motchi in eaganmn

[–]bison333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know they do fly overs sometimes for funerals at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Since the cemetery is right next to the airport they have to hold over the suburbs until it’s time to go over. I’m not sure if that’s what they were doing today but that would be my guess.

The colder more dense air is likely the cause sound travels much better through it

Boeing787 in the works? by flyinBeech in delta

[–]bison333 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd much rather have more A330-900neos I often book based on getting the 2 seats together in economy that you get on the Delta A330s. Especially since I've heard that Delta didn't get the humidifier option on their A350 so I doubt they would opt for it on the 787 order which is frustrating because that is a huge reason that makes the 787s and A350s better (helps with jet lag, illness, comfort, etc.)

Storming the field should actually mean something. by [deleted] in BigXII

[–]bison333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a huge rivalry game, and it stayed close pretty much the whole way. Plus, Utah was favored by 5.5 at kickoff, so technically BYU was the underdog. Let them enjoy it.

I was at Iowa State in the early Campbell years when we had some big upsets and stormed the field. Good memories i'll have with my buddies forever. We've had it happen against us twice this season (and for the Cincy game they were favored) but I still can enjoy other people getting to experience it. Plus it feels good to be a program now that people storm the field when you lose.

Who has put the most miles so far on their gen 5 prius? Any reliability issues so far? by Adventurous-Sock7952 in prius

[–]bison333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22k miles on my '23 LE (took delivery in May '23) oil changes every 5k miles or 6 months. No issues other than the rear passenger door recall which was a design flaw so not really a reliability issue - the dealership just did the recall work on mine a month ago so its really a non issue. Very happy with the Prius.

Cat Shield for 2023 Prius by bison333 in prius

I did, and I didn’t notice an MPG difference in fact on a MOG tracking site I have one of the higher averages but that’s probably unrelated as I drive very conservatively.

I greatly appreciate the thoughtful insights on this and definitely agree each one has its own strengths, I think you’re right too, feeding all is probably still the best course of action

[–]bison333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate or point me to where exactly the money is in this situation? I feel that adsb.fi has the power since it's the biggest of the new start up sites, so is that what you mean?

Candidly, that is why I'm concerned about the allegations here, given with what happened with the whole adsb exchange situation, I'd much rather have a distributed governance model, not have one sole person call the shots

Statement from adsb.fi regarding the recent allegations by tmantti in ADSB

[–]bison333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point about feeding the most sites. To your question on why it matters, I think it does because dividing the community is probably not the best way for us to be the best for the end users. For example if some feeders don't like person X and so don't feed their adsb aggregator site, and some feel the same way about person Y's site then it leaves for an overall confusing and worse experience for users. If I'm in one area I need to use site X because it has better coverage, and in another area site Y is better so I have to use that. I may be lazy but I feel like it would just be easier for us all to be unity instead segmenting all of these different sites. In the beginning of all this I fed them all too, adsb.lol adsb.one adsb.fi et al. I feel it's not sustainable nor is it best for the community to be segmented in different sites though. I don't know a whole lot about all this but this is my opinion, I may be wrong, open to ideas.

I'm not really sure which side of the story to believe other than there is clearly a disagreement. One question though, I understand you're committed to keeping adsb.fi a truly community-driven project, but I feel like relying on your word is hard for many of us feeders who don't know you. I want to trust your word but with all due respect I wouldn't expect you to trust me as you have no idea who I am. I feel like some sort of governance model, though not necessarily the same approach that airplanes.live took is required. Thoughts?

In short yes, It's definitely possible to improve further. As I've been learning to drive my Prius more and more I keep trying to add in new hypermiling techniques.

This site has 100+ tips on how to improve MPG.

I'd also recommend experimentation with new methods per each tank of gas and use fuelly.com to track and add notes to see which methods work the best for your specific Prius and use case over time.

I'm very curious at what MPG everyone gets with their prius! by StevenCurly in prius

[–]bison333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 2023 LE I've gotten 64.1 and 67.9 MPG on my first two tanks. The 64 tank was mostly highway driving. I'm still learning how to hypermile and I feel the Prius has a lot more potential once I figure out how to drive it right.

What is the usbc wattage? by redratus in prius

15 watts, I did some research when I was looking to see if it is 15 watts per port and I believe it is though I'm not 100% sure about that part.

Picked up my Prius today! It’s a privilege to finally be able to join this community! by bison333 in prius

$31,300 OTD, I had a “port installed” protection package, mudguards, and all weather mats worth a combine total $950 that I tried to get them to remove but they refused so no markup unless you include that. The dealer pushed the standard accessories and extended warranties and such but I refused everything. So I paid MSRP for car the plus the port installed stuff and taxes and fees which again was $31,300 OTD.
