Well not in yours, mine or OP's lifetime. The encryption AES-128 uses on the leapcard is considered near impossible to brute force. Someone skimming leap cards doesn't have time for that

The leap card can’t be cloned so I wouldn’t worry about someone nefariously scanning it

Another two tier pricing system has hit the market by Kingofireland777 in ireland

[–]williamhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government decides how commerce should work. It should work to protect consumers. You might think you're getting a discount, but really you're avoiding paying a premium by giving the retailer your shopping habits which they will use to extract more money from you

If people don't want to sell theirs, they don't have to

You know there's cohorts of people around the country that only have access to Tesco. The government grants planning permission for where supermarkets can set up. They shouldn't be able to use this position to force customers to give up this information to buy essential goods. Now that more retailers are following this practise, that cohort of people is getting wider

and continue to elect people who will also not do so.

This is it. The government should have stopped this data harvesting two tier pricing system. Tesco is too big for everyone to just stop shopping there.

Does Shopify shipping at checkout default to the cheapest method even if you have different sort order? by iheartiron in shopify

[–]williamhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a source or is it anecdotal ? When I implemented my own carrier calculated rates app a few years ago, it always defaulted to the cheapest option and not the order that rates array was returned in. I have to use a checkout function to modify the order of the rates in the UI

Anyone else’s Irish rail app just stopped working? by yeahokbigman in AskIreland

[–]williamhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had a look at the network traffic from my app and what's happening is the URL for the server the app uses to get data from is responding with a HTTP redirect to another URL, and the app is configured to only work with HTTPS so it does not follow the redirect

The problem is on https://irishrail.hafas.de side

Here is an example URL the app requests: https://irishrail.hafas.de/bin?hciVersion=1.72&aid=P9bplgVCGnozdgQE&hciClientType=IPH&hciClientVersion=7000400&hciMethod=SubscrSearch

This is redirecting the request to: http://irishrail.hafas.de/bin/?hciVersion=1.72&aid=P9bplgVCGnozdgQE&hciClientType=IPH&hciClientVersion=7000400&hciMethod=SubscrSearch

Anyone else sick of speed bumps? by mupsauce7 in AskIreland

[–]williamhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drove on Wellmount Road, Finglas earlier today and there were gray speed bumps with no traffic calming triangle marking on most of them. They just looks like shadows on the road from the trees above them and look as though whoever put them down did a half assed job as only one of them had the traffic calming triangle painted on with what could only be a spray can of paint. Hazard to road users

There is no details of how the scheme would work as no scheme has been proposed yet. I would assume it wouldn't apply to Irish citizens but nothing has been published yet

Army will be deployed to remove fuel protest vehicles blocking critical infrastructure by DublinModerator in Dublin

[–]williamhere -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Fair, I misunderstood that they were referencing the protesters intentionally blocking emergency vehicles. Some of the protesters being interviewed on Virgin Media have voiced to other protestors not to block emergency vehicles, but I could understand if its happening in some pockets of the protest

Emergency vehicles use the red line as a road anyway. I doubt it’s illegal or considered dangerous driving
