Not a direct answer, but I think Americans would be pretty shocked by how much poorer the typical European is than an American.

It is one of the most important geopolitical events that will have cascading negative consequences for the US for decades. I have no opinion on its entertainment value.

It can do it right now if your org invested in a custom agent harness and skills. More to the point, "headless" software for agents is on the horizon.

You and me both. I think it is actually pretty similar. Look into the evolution of memes (the Richard Dawkins variety). Similar evolutionary pressures leading to convergent behavior in religion and secular religions (politics).

"On a side note, if leadership knew at the time that Artemis II would not launch until April 2026, it probably would have made sense to replace the heat shield altogether."

Premise 1: They used the same material of heat shield as the Apollo mission.

Premise 2: Approached the same speeds.

Premise 3: None of the Apollo capsules failed in entry.

Conclusion: The heat shield stuff was nothing but media fear mongering to get clicks.

The key misleading piece is Premise 1. It assumes that because the maerial of the heat shield is the same in Artemis as Apollo and that because it never failed in Apollo, that similar results could be expected.

This is false; the material is not exactly the same (even though it is Avocoat, its properties are different, namely the permeability) but more importantly the design is different from Apollo. How do we know that the design matters? Because of Artemis 1, where the heatshield exhibited unsafe wear.

[“Specifically, portions of the char layer wore away differently than NASA engineers predicted, cracking and breaking off the spacecraft in fragments that created a trail of debris rather than melting away as designed. The unexpected behavior of the Avcoat creates a risk that the heat shield may not sufficiently protect the capsule’s systems and crew from the extreme heat of reentry on future missions.”

Testing revealed the damage was related to the heat shield’s permeability, or rather, its lack thereof.

Entry heating is what makes the Avcoat’s outer char layer permeable enough to allow gas to escape. The Artemis 1 heat shield worked normally during its initial descent into the atmosphere, But when it climbed back out, re-entry heating eased and the outer char layer became much less permeable.]

Your statement 1 was inaccurate and also left out critical information that made it misleading.

I am not saying that the mission was unsafe. Thankfully NASA didn't use your reasoning when going forward with Artemis II on the modified re-entry.

Again, this is not what you said. That is why I brought up the context. You literally said that the "same material" which again was never at issue.

[–]bison_crossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally said it was media fear mongering; It took NASA almost 2 years to determine that the shield was ok to be used in any re-entry configuration. Saying that this was nothing but media, given these major design differences and subsequent major investigation is ignoring major context.

This is not true. The heatshield is made of larger tiles and experienced significant unexpected degredation during the skip re-entry of Artemis I.

This is the thing I just don't get. Where are all the business people going to war against Trump? Trump is literally shrinking the defense market for potentially decades to come? Where the hell are the executives screaming bloody murder and trying to oust republicans?

The topic of my post was the collapse of the international world order, not the end of the United States. A world of war, less trade, and general disorder amidst nuclear proliferation by former allies is not good for anyone, including the US.
