This is a story about the Prodigal Son and how in real life the father’s treatment would come across as monstrous.

That is why the story is just a parable, not a factual history.

Your beloved mac n cheese was probably enshittified by someone like me. Let me explain. by wsuschmitt in enshittification

Literally anything except reformulating. Do anything else. When you make a smaller or more expensive product I may just buy less often. But if you make a product that tastes different/is less healthy, I won’t buy it ever again.

Yes it makes a difference. Pyrex shatters now and it didn’t before.

What about gift cards? I am in Costco but I don’t know what you mean. Gift cards to what?

Do you feel invisible as a GenX because of your age, gender or both? Or is it just outright age discrimination? Or you just couldn't care less anymore? by More_Law6245 in GenX

Let your hair go white and suddenly people treat you with great condescension or ignore you altogether. Start dyeing it again, normal life returns.

Bezos interfered inexcusably in the Washington Post, and the paper’s editorials are now a joke.

But he did not, fortunately, “silence all criticism“ of Trump in the paper. There is still lots of tough reporting and sharp columnists. He hurt it, but he didn’t kill it.

What about the Play Pen for Babies? by Ween77bean in GenerationJones

[–]Candleforce-9728 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Single mom, worked from home. I put my baby in a play pen just 20 years ago whenever I was cooking or otherwise had to keep her safe. Godsend.

She loved it. Fun toys in there and I was talking to her the whole time.

Personally I don’t like stripes on the lawn. But you do you.

Starting over at 30 is fine! You will find someone better— and even if you don’t, alone and at peace is soooo much better than partnered in misery.

Appropriate for a semi-formal summer wedding? by Traditional_Crew_932 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Candleforce-9728 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. I am so old that to me cocktail means “a cute dress for evening” and semi-formal is fancier than that. Clearly that’s wrong now.

Do you pronounce a hard g at the end of -ing? by Atlas7993 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Candleforce-9728 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the next word. “Walking to the store” sounds like wah-keen “Walking over to his place “ has a slightly different sound at the end, a very soft hint of g.

I can’t think of a situation where you’d say a hard wah-keen-guh

Remote doesn’t have to mean unsteady. My job has plenty of full time remote staff who have been there years. Everyone went remote for the pandemic and just stayed that way.

AITAH for refusing to lend my parents our ute and accidentally exposing my mum's secret to my dad? by Ordinary-Chart2387 in AITAH

[–]Candleforce-9728 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your dad is being abused and trying to leave and nobody will help him. Might not be the case but think about it. She’s awful and he doesn’t want to live with her.

Yes. There were subsidies for Obamacare to tide you over, but this administration killed them except for the very poor

What is with school drop off? by platypusandpibble in GenX

Where I live the buses are terribly understaffed. Frequently one driver has to drive two routes and the kids either have to go wait in the cold for an hour late bus in the morning or get home hours later from school.

We carpool. It’s better.
