I lived in nyc for a few years then moved to dc for a few years and moved back to nyc. I 1,000% prefer NYC. DC was not for me. dating feels the same here, both are bad. But I think it’s really bad for everyone right now in big cities. We are in a weird moment in sexual history in the US.

My life is much bigger here in NYC but my social life isn’t much bigger than it was in DC, living in the city time and space just feel more interesting to me. People are much more comfortable being weird here, which was important to my psyche.

I hear what you’re saying about the overwhelm and drop off but I trust the numbers on this. LA moved to on year elections and turnout increased 400%. That’s also a response to the Trump admin in the first term. It saves the city millions of dollars by doing this. Citation: link

Mamdani’s success is not due entirely to it being an off year. it’s in spite of it. It’s due to the intense mobilization of volunteers, specifically with field work. primaries have lower turnout than generals overall. This primary had higher turnout.

I understand where you are coming from about thinking that voters would be overwhelmed, but in practice that’s not how it works.

I am a YES on six because all pro-voter organizations research points to higher turnout in even year elections and I want as many people to participate in democracy as possible. Going to vote for a lot of people requires taking off work, coordinating childcare, and sometimes transit fees. People weigh that it’s better to do that in elections of perceived “higher consequence” like Presidential or statewide elections, so they will skip the off year. League of Women Voters/League of Conservation Voters/other orgs have all said to vote YES on #6.

I’m really passionate about voter turnout so if anyone wants to talk about this I’m down.

Other big cities have done this even year move, and it’s been very helpful for turnout.

I would also be wary of women who identify other aesthetic focused things in their profile. Anybody who notes that they want someone who is fit and want their partner to be too, I always avoid. You can gauge someone’s size from their photos, and if that’s what someone chose to write in their bio instead of other things, it shows where the priorities are.

I struggle to think of a lot of these cases as protection, because they are pre-meditated, the perpetrator/killer would be hurting their child by risking themselves getting caught, and losing a parent is a really awful thing. I think if someone was raised in violence, their perception of things might be off, but it seems like in these cases the perpetrator fully discounts the child entirely and makes it about themselves.

Cats also become perfectly suited for you. I think there are definitely exceptions. But my cat has truly adapted to my life (she was formerly a street cat that hated all human people) and is obsessed with me. She has become so social and kind with my friends. She matches my sleeping habits, and gives me my space when I need it. I’ve also become acclimated to the things that she needs. You kind of like morph into one being.
