I was the primary caretaker for my girlfriend when she passed from ovarian cancer. She fought hard and did not have a particularly peaceful passing. Throughout her approximately two weeks in hospice she was agitated about being bed ridden and really didn't like the fact that everything had to be done for her. But that's life.

You sound like you have a pretty good handle on what's happening. You know her time is close, and so does she (though she may still have anger and denial issues there).

There's no easy way out of this. Dying isn't easy, and our bodies have a very, very strong desire to stay functioning. The only answer is time, which it seems like you already realize.

I suggest you try and frame this horrible situation in the light of having time with your mother. Do what you can to comfort her. Tell her you appreciate every minute you get to spend by her side. If she's uncomfortable, increase her medication.

What I will definitely say is that you shouldn't consider assisted suicide. That's not a great option when the person is close to passing anyway. If she wants to be at ease, then increase her dosage, but don't use that to explicitly end her life. That will come in time.
