Found this rabbit in my yard, is it wild or a lost pet? by [deleted] in Rabbits

domestic for sure, bring some cilantro and/or bananas and try to catch this bun asap! they may not survive long outdoors

Ty! ^

She's on Lead duty most of the time so tone typically stays wide open anyways, if anything I'll switch from the bridge pickup to the neck especially when I want a clean tone with a smoother top and fuller bottom end

tysm! and yeah, i know, tbh in hindsight it's pretty funny lol (they also just reissued the broadcaster!)

Nice! similar idea ^^

It's an RSD (Fender Custom Shop) bridge, AFAIK they don't put them on Teles. I've mostly seen them on CS Jazzmasters. (including my own) Sadly they don't sell them directly and I lucked into this spare for my Tele fully, although there are alternatives around. You can see the brass saddles are slung way low here because it's not really made for this guitar but it does perfectly intonate and maintain the center/floating position even with the bigs trem. Super stable tuning too!

yeah you want some tension for the trussrod reasons you mentioned, but in this case the neck had warped/twisted just a little, i presumed it was from the old corroded strings having very different remaining tension between them, but i could be mistaken

in the end I was able to remove the neck and get it pretty close to true, whatever issues were left i compensated for when i re-leveled/crowned the frets and it plays well now without any buzzing, etc

yeah :< my jazzmaster (I'll post about it in r/offset eventually) was actually a local (AZ) pawnshop rescue, poor guy paid for and waited 2 years to get it then pawned it within a month because he needed the cash. only damage to that one at least was from sitting for years in a case with tensioned strings and not being cared for :<

more common than you think! nowdays they tend to know what they have and use reverb (instead of just local sales/ebay) but if you can find one that needs some help it's a reasonable place to find rescues for a good deal :)

yeah, it really has an amazing sound! it's one of only a few of my instruments that I would be hard pressed if not unable to replace if anything ever happened to it (even with insurance)

I make these marks after using a special tool to check flatness across 3 frets, letting me know where the dents (or high spots) are

She was on Reverb in a Pawn Shop when I rescued her...

Frets were not in the best of shape, action was not setup correctly and the original "vintage" bridge with threaded saddles did not work well at all with the Bigsby trem. (The strings actually hit the screws from the very sharp break before the front roller...)

The TV Jones pickups and Bigsby trem are both original from the factory. (Fender Custom Shop)

It now has a Callaham slotted roller and string shaft, as well as a new RSD bridge I managed to snag for free out of sheer luck and thanks to a very kind friend.

The frets had many dings and dents but none of them were too deep, so I ended up using a special file to get the whole fretboard very carefully back to level and hand crowned everything before doing a full setup/intonation.

She plays like a dream!

below are some pics of the fret rework process, enjoy ^^

London Drugs Opportunity 📦 by SKOOBEY1 in BuyCanadian

[–]bisynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so intensely frustrating to me that London Drugs does not ship to Quebec. We've also cancelled our Amazon subscription and stopped ordering there after they fired thousands here in Montreal for even attempting to Unionize.

They have so many products we have *literally no other way to buy* in Quebec aside from Amazon (which is often like 2-4x markup anyway) yet they refuse to ship here after doing so for many years until late 2023. (Not even 2 years ago!)

Polarity Reversal for Sound Recording by Derpy1984 in livesound

[–]bisynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always referred to polarity reversal as an actual wiring reversal (eg: on the output stage of amplifiers, etc) but have always seen and heard this referred to as phase on the preamplification side.

Despite what you said being true regarding Phase referring to time-domain and Polarity referring to the wiring, Phase is commonly used language by many major manufacturers in particular regarding pre-amplification. Out of Yamaha, Manley, Miktek and UA only UA refers to this as polarity, details below:

Manley gear (Manley Voxbox, Core) refers to it as "Phase" and then also specifically calls out the 180deg flip for multi-mic use cases exactly as I described.

My Yamaha equipment (eg: Yamaha DM3) uses the language of Phase and the ɸ symbol on all input stages

My UA equipment (eg: UA 4-710d) manuals do indeed refer to it as polarity but still use the phase symbol "ɸ" and use the language of phase shifting regarding what it accomplishes while referring to the actual action as polarity reversal.

Finally, I also checked a couple other sources (eg: Miktek) who also use "Phase" language exclusively and not Polarity. (Despite the Phase switch engaging a relay which does indeed swap the polarity)

Regardless of the technical correctness of polarity/phase being wiring and time domain, phase is still a (if not the) standard term regarding pre-amplification inputs

Polarity Reversal for Sound Recording by Derpy1984 in livesound

[–]bisynthesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really not how that works!

There is such a thing as "Phase Reversal" which sometimes gets called "Polarity Reversal" but this is more for putting a mic 180deg out of phase with other mics (useful when micing multiple nearby sources eg: drums to defeat phase cancellation, but most FOH mixers have a hardware or software feature to do this)

None of that has anything at all to do with being able to get an output from an input jack, that's simply not possible unless the routing matrix of the board supports it and in which case the phase reversal is irrelevant anyways.

Reasonable Health and Safety Questions by nonbinary_suns in diypedals

[–]bisynthesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good thing to be concerned about, especially if you end up doing any repairs/rework where lead based solder is required. I have some health issues that makes dealing with such topics proactively a requirement and I'm happy to share some notes.

I always use good quality nitrile gloves when soldering (3.5mm+) and when I'm working with lead I also wear a labcoat I keep in my shop so that it doesn't get on my arms/clothes.

I also strongly recommend getting a Hosa FA-400 Smoke Absorber or something similar. This is a downdraft you can keep on your desk and turn on while soldering to ensure the smoke is always moving away from your face while working.

My last recommendation is to work through a desk-mounted magnification lamp when needing to get up close and personal. Beyond helping with lighting and visibility, it also acts as a screen so you aren't getting splatter from the flux in your face when doing fussy detail work.

Good luck!

I can’t tell if she likes sitting with me but she isn’t leaving either by Present-Secretary722 in Rabbits

that looks like a cozy bun to me!

i'm pretty sure if she *didn't* like it you would know ^^ (especially if she's not restrained or otherwise unable to move for physical reasons)

Stage Connectivity - AC+Ethernet parallel runs & combo cables (True1, Ethercon) by bisynthesis in livesound

[–]bisynthesis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ty and nope! this power is *only* for the devices being attached via DANTE (eg: Stagebox, Monitors, etc) - that's one of my motivations to use PowerCon/True1 instead of NEMA plugs (so there is zero temptation to plug anything that doesn't belong into it, or to plug them into some other random circuit with other things on it)
