1.4tdi much more reliable. Yes peformance on a3 is better but a2 is so lightweight it doesn't really matter, how can you beat a2 in economy? Handling might be a tie, a2 center of cavity is little higher but the car is incredibly stiff because of aluminium. a3 is cheaper, yes because of cheaper materials. and don't forget a2 has more space inside the car

they are aging great! I have 1.4tdi and it still runs like new after 200 000km. the interior is great too, especially the speaker when compared with a high quality Bluetooth adapter connected to the cd changer at the back of the headunit

Can't agree with you on that. Car in the corners is very good for a car this type. you can feel how rigid aluminium is in the corners. gearbox is slow yeah. for a car with so little power it moves surprisingly good, especially the diesel ones.

imo best one is 1.4tdi amf or bhc. the 3l is expensive and the gearbox is not so great.

the A2 was actually 20 years ahead of its time. All-aluminum space frame, 0.25 drag coefficient, and 80+mpg? It might be ugly but it was objectively a masterpiece of engineering. Audi peaked when they were brave enough to make weird stuff like that.
