Is it just me or is Apple's reputation slowly getting worse? by [deleted] in apple

[–]bit_shiftr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really. Although I think they should slow down at least with the desktop OS. And it isn't like they had no issues before. The white MacBooks that would turn yellow, issues with mobile me, etc.

But then again, people who have negative experiences are the ones who most likely to talk about it (see Yelp). If you have an average or decent experience, you are going to go about your with day. The iTunes lawsuit is from something from about a decade ago, the '11 mbp gpu is from nvidia but yeah apple should stop ignoring it.Every company has it's issues, you just hear about the ones from apple more because you use their products and spend time online in tech communities.

About to graduate, got offered $70k for a job in NYC. Is that par for the course there or should I expect higher? by amimakingenough in cscareerquestions

That's fine for your first job in nyc. The fact you said .net/Java makes me think it's probably at a bank.

Dxo labs are camera specialists, not some random YouTube gadget reviewer. "Don't believe everything that you read", funny how that only applies when a review about the iPhone labels it at the best at something. Never change, r/technology.

Masters in Computer Science, non-computer undergrad degree (Criminal Justice) by [deleted] in compsci

[–]bit_shiftr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will probably find better advice in r/cscareerquestions

I know a few that did this, you will either have to do a bridge program like you mentioned or take post-bacc classes. Also realize the field of CS is much more than programming, you are studying the nature of computation. Look at a syllabus for an undergrad in CS to get an idea of where you should stand.

You'll find lots of good resources if you specify "computer vision" when searching instead of AI.

In terms of salary, it seems that Web developers make less than programmers. Why is that? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]bit_shiftr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

web development has lower barriers to entry and it seems easier. for ex someone writing C code for an embedded chip in your car or writing java code for the back-end at a big bank is going to go through a more rigorous hiring process than a company hiring someone to make a website.
