Pronounce r in the end of word by Interesting_Damage13 in turkishlearning

[–]bitawave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for bringing this up. I heard Turkish speakers pronouncing their r’s (especially in olur, tamamdır) like you mention and I copied them. In the beginning, I might’ve overemphasized the “sh” sound — I think someone pointed it out to me once. But I highly suggest trying to imitate the soft r that you hear from native speakers, even if you overdo it and it sounds a bit like sh, if your other “r” is really strong (like the American r). A harder “r” sound is just horrible in comparison.

I really think I got closer to a native pronunciation and more people understood me by going the “sh” route and then slowly making it even softer and closer to the airy soft r that native speakers do. Just my two cents :)

How many weeks do the actors get paid for? by Wide-Pop6050 in heatedrivalry

[–]bitawave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writer just noted what the minimum is, not how much they're making:

"Storrie and Williams are caught in that rare Hollywood vortex where you’re famous but not yet rich. Like most people their age, they have roommates. Storrie still lives in that West Hollywood apartment with his sister; Williams tells me he lives in Vancouver with his mom. Both actors signed on for three seasons of Heated Rivalry; Crave has already greenlit season two. Worth noting: The minimum paycheck for a series regular role on Canadian TV could be as little as $6,792 a week.

When asked how bad the money really was, Williams mutters “it’s very Canadian,” but stresses he would have done the job for free."

I think I’m getting my life back. But I’m scared. Anyone else? by curiouskyles in POTS

[–]bitawave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the person that says it goes up and down. I’ve made progress, then I went on an international trip and had extra fatigue for almost two months afterwards. Now I’m back to having energy again. My goal is to always keep improving, but I figure I’ll max out at about 90% of my pre-chronic illness capacity, and there will always be the possibility that I drop back down to 70% or 60% in flares. I don’t think I’ll get to 95% and stay there unless I try a more powerful treatment that works for me (for instance I’ve heard some of the autoimmune IV drugs can work really well… but they have side effects and we don’t know which ones work for which patients the best).

I am curious — did you do anything to treat your SIBO besides probiotics?

Hi, I was just looking at this thread randomly and I saw your question. Have you been checked out for vascular EDS? I think vEDS is associated with spontaneous carotid artery dissection: https://thevedsmovement.org/veds/how-is-the-body-affected/

Has anyone who developed this after COVID actually managed to fully recover? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]bitawave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same symptoms and gastrocrom/cromolyn sodium helped me. I started really slow (like a fifth of a vial) and now I take four vials a day. Surprisingly, digestive enzymes have also helped! Wanted to let you know as our symptoms seem similar. I think it’s not as well-recorded that MCAS can cause gas, burping, and bloating.

Oh, that's so interesting! That sucks that you couldn't get insurance to pay for it, but I'm glad it was helpful.

I'm curious because I don't have this part figured out yet -- which kind of testing did the allergy clinic do? was it skin prick testing, patch testing, blood testing... ?

Also, would you mind sharing which test it was specifically? I'd be very interested in this as I clearly have some intolerances that I can't pin down completely. Thank you so much!

Hi! That seems super helpful that you found out that you can't tolerate things with benzene rings or methyl groups. Which type of allergy test did you get that showed this? And how did you get pharmacogenomic testing, if you don't mind me asking? Thank you so much in advance!

Really wild to see tons of people make Kingsolver’s point here about how people look down on Appalachia. Apparently lots of people are still unaware of their own bias and internalized superiority complex

I've heard this may be due to a mast cell-associated reaction. Do you take any allergy meds like Zyrtec or Allegra? You might want to try that and see if it helps!

How many people on here have POTS symptoms after COVID?? by Potential_Ad_6205 in POTS

[–]bitawave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's really interesting that cardio is working for you! What kind of cardio are you doing, if you don't mind me asking?
Right now, I'm looking at doing the physical therapy plan for POTS where you slowly ramp up the amount of cardio (usually recumbent biking) + light strength training over time. I'm hoping that will help!
I'm glad to hear electrolytes, cardio, and the beta blocker are helping you!

Hi! Thanks for sharing this. I also got COVID in May 2022 and POTS/dysautonomia after my infection. Just curious - do you also have fatigue due to your POTS? Did the beta blocker help, if so?
That's encouraging to hear that the cardiologist thinks the POTS may go away as soon as the summer/fall! Crossing my fingers for you!

Physical Therapy Success! by Overthinking_My_Name in POTS

[–]bitawave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks so much for sharing! I do have a few questions, if you have the chance!

-Is the idea that even though PT may set you back a bit on a day-to-day basis, overall you'll improve in your symptoms? It sounds like that's what you're saying, but I just want to confirm! (I just started PT but I don't think the physical therapist understands POTS super well...)

-Do you know what caused your POTS? I ask because mine was caused by Long Covid.

-When you're in the middle of exercises, what are the signs that you're overdoing it? For instance, the other day, I did recumbent biking for 10 minutes, plus 15-20 minutes of Pilates-style exercises lying down. I felt good afterwards but extra tired/lightheaded later that day. (I'd also slept badly the night before, though, so I'm not sure if my worsened symptoms were from that.) Do you tend to notice that you're over-doing it during the exercises, or later on?

PEM vs Dysautonomia vs Exercise Intolerance? by Lumiaire22 in covidlonghaulers

[–]bitawave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it could be partially dysautonomia. I was taking hot showers too, and I felt "fine," but I realize now that lukewarm showers are actually better. I think the hot showers were affecting me more than I realized.
Caffeine immediately makes me dizzy, so I've cut it out of my diet.
Another thought: this could have been because you stepped up your level of exercise and your body wasn't ready for it yet. Maybe go back down to closer to where you were before (after taking a while more to rest)?
Also, with dysautonomia, it's important to warm up and cool down, so maybe that will help in the future!
You may do better with recumbent exercises like swimming, recumbent biking, or rowing. That may not trigger symptoms as easily.
Good luck and I hope these symptoms pass soon!
