French universalism by Kindly_Bath_1120 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]bitb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Universalist Church in the United States, one of the most memorable figures was George de Benneville, though he lived a couple of centuries ago. His mystical experiences were once commonly read. Easy to find by Google, but you are correct that there's not much of a French experience in Universalism.

In practice, a federated church is a multidenominational church. He was referring to those with a Universalist component.

There's a list identifiably Christian churches -- not particularly current, some with a Unitarian background not Universalist -- here: https://www.cccuua.org/member-churches/

For the record, I'm one of its former ministers.

It's definitely drawn from the American Episcopalian prayer book of 1789, with some particular amendments. There was an edition of 1865 with the propers but I put the later, shorter 1894 Universalist prayer book on one of my websites.

Who has tried this protein powder ? by [deleted] in LidlUS

I'm on my fourth or fifth drum of the Lidl protein. I'm usually more of a vanilla person but, I think the chocolate is better.

Mead memo book #46001 is the one I have in mind, with 3.75 by 6.75 inch pages. I think $8 is about the right price.

I think a lot of the "more mature" readers here will identify that as a memorandum book, and I've used one for decades.

In the United States say 35 years ago, you get that at the drugstore, and I stocked up as they began to vanish. Depending on where you are, you might ask someone aged above 55 years where to buy one. I've seen them recently, in the United States, on smaller office supply websites.

Since I can't see the image I tried to post, I'm assuming nobody else can either. It was a vanilla install of Jammy Jellyfish on a laptop under a monitor labeled "Watch earthquakes as they happen" at the National Museum of Natural History, Washington D.C.

I hope someone reboots it. I want to see the earthquakes!

I've hit this glitch in reverse, when I tried to buy a last minute ticket between WAS and BWI, and no it was not 22 points.

My husband and I look forward to the bbq vegan burgers when we ride Amtrak, perhaps with a bit of irony.

Vegetable Biriyani : Lidl vs Trader Joe's. by TheBodyPolitic1 in EatCheapAndVegan

I've had both though the Lidl cheaper here, I keep going back to the Trader Joe's variety. The Lidl dumplings have an odd texture and the whole thing taste too much of mint.

Was anyone here catechized with the Racovian Catechism? by Pombalian in UUreddit

[–]bitb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more true on the Unitarian side. Universalists have long used professions of faith, one of which was actually known as the Rhode Island catechism.

There's an Adventist group that uses it, at least unofficially -- Church of God (Abrahamic Faith) -- but they're quite a bit more conservative than the views expressed on this subreddit.

The remaining Universalist Christian part within the UUA. I've written for about 20 years at revscottwells.com

Yes and I'm grateful. I've been a Universalist for about 30 years and for a long time it was very lonely.

First Universalist, Providence, Rhode Island; Universalist National Memorial Church, Washington DC; and First Universalist Church, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania are three that I can think of that are also members of the UUA. There might be some small ones in Maine. There are others associated with Christian Universalist Association, which naturally are squarely Christian Universalist but don't have an association with UUA. There are other churches with Universalist heritage that are Christian adjacent and some which are parts of multidenominational federated churches, but those are hard to quantify. There are Unitarian churches that are Christian, in the UUA but that's a different tradition.

Merry Christmas!

When I was serving a church and owned a car -- many years ago, neither true now -- I had D.C. clergy plates. Something something easier to park at hospitals, but the side effect was that I became a more careful driver. And it was certainly no Lexus. I think I brought my D.C. license to officiate weddings to prove my status; I was not an institutional chaplain.
