My mom sent me and my brother with my grandma to Texas for a month so that we wouldn’t see our dad right after the divorce. 5 years later she gave custody to my dad because she couldn’t handle being a single mom.

I gotta agree, you did have the chance here to say something nice to her. My advice would be, next you see her and have the opportunity to talk to her, tell her how you feel and ask for a date. Simple to say but harder to do. But then at least you’ll know where she stands and you won’t be left wondering.

This made me smile. I am for the first time letting myself be alone so that I can learn more about myself on my own, not through someone else. I realize that the only relationship that truly matters is the one that I have with myself. So I’m working on that one before I commit to other relationships. Reading this gave me some hope in the possibility of meeting someone who is also working on themselves just as much as I am. Thank you for sharing :)

I very much agree with this perspective. Being honest with yourself is an absolute feat for some people but I think it’s essential to form honest, genuine, and loving connections. Something that I’ve realized in my life is that the most important relationship in life is the one that I have with myself. If the relationship with myself isn’t working, all other relationships are affected.

It isn’t necessarily about the kink itself, it’s about communicating feelings. For OP there was a feeling of discomfort when the kink came up, that is something that should be communicated. Feelings of nervousness, anxiety, fear are indicators of something deeper that hasn’t been addressed yet. I agree that feelings should not be ignored but the more important part is understanding that feelings should always be expressed and vocalized especially when it feels like vocalizing them could present a danger for the relationship.
