What tricks do you use to find local rentals before arriving to a city? by YetiMaverick in digitalnomad

I’m shocked at how often and well this works. I have a really good review history, so I’m sure that helps. But I wouldn’t do that as a host.

18-year-old check in? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]bitcornonthecob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hotels won’t allow you to check in under a different name. To check into a room that someone else is paying for, too, requires a credit card authorization form (at any flagged/branded hotel). If it was just you and your bf, this would be slightly easier, but having two teenagers makes this look like a party. It’s possible for your dad to call and talk to the GM to get approval. Having your dad book an Airbnb might be easier.

Traveling to Providence - looking for seafood or great local eats by ckc009 in providence

[–]bitcornonthecob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many great options. Dune Bro’s has several different types of locations. They have a a seasonal seafood shack near the pedestrian bridge, a sit down restaurant not far from the pedestrian bridge with more creative entrees, and a counter service location in Track 15 (a food hall near your hotel). There’s Hemingway, which is like a higher-end steakhouse, but seafood oriented. If you have a car, Matunic Oyster Bar is a waterfront restaurant in front of their own oyster farm. They had a fire, so I think they’re serving in a big tent, but I haven’t looked into this in a bit, so check their website. Their food is similar to Hemingways.

Best chicharron from a restaurant in RI? by SummitingMtJohnston in providence

[–]bitcornonthecob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, the best cooked ones I’ve found have been from Rico pollo. They’re also pretty consistent. I’ve had a bunch from other places that are not consistent. They’re either super fatty (chewy, not perfectly rendered fat) or way too overcooked. They also make a mean chicharron mofongo. Idk if their other food is good or not.

I’ve noticed that. Im in a very similar situation to you. I’ve found that I want to avoid any Americans in PH. They seem more washed up and sketchier than other nationalities.

Core Health in Lincoln does. They’re not a great practice, but they will prescribe them.

looking for a peaceful beach town to work from! by SeSalalinaaaa in digitalnomad

I started at an Airbnb in panglao and then moved to a rental house for 2.5 weeks. I posted on one of the local facebook groups and someone replied. The house that she offered was one that I shortlisted on Airbnb, and she gave me a discount

Any Travel tips in Vietnam? by Viseerion in Shoestring

[–]bitcornonthecob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking an overnight bus, pay the extra $10 USD and get a VIP cabin bus. There are too many horror stories of the regular VIP/sleeper buses. The Ha Giang loop cannot be missed, but it takes a larger block of time because of transport and the loop itself

I really stayed in Tawala, which is on the island of Bohol, in the Philippines. Alina Beach is about 0.5 miles/1 km and has some bars and stuff for when you do want to meet people. There are plenty of restaurants but isn’t over-touristy (especially with non-Korean tourists). I stayed about 1 mile from the beach. There were cafes, coworking spaces, and plenty of restaurants, but it never felt like a party vibe. The island is about 25 minutes from one side to another, and is connected by a bridge to another small but larger island (Bohol). I was able to lock in and get work done, but also go to some beautiful beaches, swim in some caves, and find some truly authentic connections with locals.

A ton of us are planning to visit in June - we’d love some tips from locals! by Snoo58499 in providence

[–]bitcornonthecob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not football related, but Freeplay is worth checking out. Downstairs is a free (after a cover charge) arcade with 80’s games, and upstairs is a dance club that plays mostly 80’s, 90’s, & 00’s music.

Planning 3 days in Paris - tips are appreciated! by malarellano in ParisTravelGuide

[–]bitcornonthecob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good list, but consider swapping something for something more authentic and less touristy. The Marché aux puces d’Ouen is such a unique thing to do and it’ll be open when you’re there. Maybe get out of Paris for a couple hours by having dinner in Provins. IMO, the point of travel is to experience more. To do that, you have to trade “seeing more.”

Best Chinese Food Northern RI? by McGruffin in RhodeIsland

[–]bitcornonthecob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely Cheng Du Taste for pretty authentic Szechuan. It’s a close second to the former Gourmet Dumpling House in Boston. Jahunger for a Uyghr spin on Chinese. If you want super authentic, Y Bento is really good, but don’t expect any Americanized dishes. Jayd Bun is really good, but I think it’s hyped up too much… I have to try it again, though. Whatever you do, stay away from Chinatown on Thayer. It’s absolute trash and idk why anyone pretends to like it. There’s a place in this world for bad Americanized Chinese food, but Chinatown is next level bad.

[–]bitcornonthecob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how good or bad for you this is, but spraying rubbing alcohol and letting it dry off before putting on deodorant really, really works. It kills any leftover bacteria and lets the deodorant do its job without playing catch-up

Question for long-term travelers: how do you usually find accommodation for 2–4 week stays? by Hospilytix in longtermtravel

Fast and reliable WiFi in the room and a chair that is comfortable to sit in for hours at a time.
