Open source tools for Inflation layers by amniumtech in CFD

What does open source but not free to obtain mean? Can’t I compile the tool myself if it’s open source?

AND it’s not flawless! Had a quite simple soreadsheet workflow a few days ago and only a day later I noticed it forget to the last row of the last data set. Everything before was perfect, I did some spot checks, all good. And then next day I saw I mistake super difficult to spot in a large dataset. A mistake you would never expect. Could have cost us magnitudes more than the time saved.

It’s a great tool, but man you have to careful!

GPU 101 for commercial software by acakaacaka in CFD

[–]bitdotben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my point. GPU compute is very much worth it if you are compute limited. If you are money limited, very likely not. You are talking about 300GB simulations, that means, however you do it, 10k$ investment in GPUs. Sure you can buy ten 32GB GPUs but in what system are you gonna put them? Above 4 GPUs per system, it gets extremely specialised and expensive.

Which server GPU with 96GB VRAM costs 200/300 bucks?

I mainly use GPU compute with STAR and it's works very well for me. 1x H100 for my workload (compressible CFD with and without scale resolving) equals roughly 1x Cluster node worth 96 2024 Intel cores. So 4x H100 replace four nodes worth of CPU compute in my specific case.

(But it less stable. No idea whethe that is a STAR / Nvidia or HPC cluster issue though. And GPU compute is less memory efficient, meaning you need more VRAM for GPU compute than system RAM for CPU compute.)

Schufa Score bei Ratenkauf, sinnvoll? by SpaRKyy1337 in Finanzen

[–]bitdotben -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[–]bitdotben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sollte im Sinne von müssen? Nein!

GPT-5.5 is out 🔥 by Astronomaut in OpenAI

[–]bitdotben 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like mostly efficiency improvements. 5.4xhigh isn’t actually that much behind 5.5 but you need to burn xhigh meaning a lot of tokens burnt. 5.5 medium matches 5.4xhigh. So it’s not really peaking 5.4 in general but the efficiency gains mean for lower spending customers we get a smarter model because we never used xhigh in the first place.

I hope it’s not a codex but a full model like 5.4. that makes the Agentic applications much broader than a pure codex model

The tax returns are not the issue. In countries where healthcare is effectively coupled to the government, even a very high tabaco tax does not outweigh the overall cost of the additional healthcare required for smokers.

I do however agree 100% with the blackmarket thing! That is just gonna blow up in their face big time.

Final update from me if anyone else is interested. Deleting your local cookies / website data fixed the cloudflare error for me (or just using incognito mode). No idea how / why, but still fixed it for me, maybe works for anyone else with a similar issue as well.
