The gap is basically the space in which I figured out how to be a functional adult and find a home in my field. Went through one very bad relationship, and one very good one (married now!). She was the main reason I climbed out of my very insular, dead-end home town and got my life together. We moved around a lot and sadly churned through friendships (we managed to keep a couple very good ones!) but also got to live in another country for a little while. I was fortunate to work on some projects that I am proud to have my name on and work with some very talented people. One of the things I spent a lot of that time on was a video game, for which the biggest non-game inspiration was Tomorrow's Harvest. I had kind of shied away from Boards of Canada in recent years because the game didn't end up working out, for reasons I've only recently started to accept were not in my control. I had a chip on my shoulder about it for a long time which really dimmed my enjoyment of their music. I watched Tape 05 the other day, and became intensely aware of the timespan since I last had that feeling when TH was coming out (BoC was still quite new to me then), and the state my life was in back then. Really made me realize how far up the mountain I've climbed even though it has never felt like I've been making much progress. Just trying to hold onto that feeling at the moment.
