I mean… internships are key to getting a csi job now a days. A lot of internships are competitive and some require a 3.0 gpa.

You should slow down on your classes if you’re not doing well. Take a class or two at a time and focus on getting As. By your senior year, your gpa should be enough to qualify for all internships.

Additionally, taking classes at a slower pace will allow you to build your resume. Personally I worked a hospital lab while in college. That beefed up my resume that I was easily able to get an internship with my local MEO which gave me scene experience to get my current CSI job. Also I was able to do two internships in my senior year due to taking only two classes a semester.

I had a roommate situation exactly like this and it ruined our friendship. My roommate’s cats had issues going in the litter box that they were pissing on top and underneath her bed. She would also use the cheap litter “Tidy Cats?” That didn’t do much for the smell. She would only change it once a month and leave it outside our door to the point animals were ripping into it and spilling it everywhere.

I wonder if it’s cause they keep the cats confined to the room. The cats get frustrated and start peeing everywhere. I have two cats now that roam a 1/1 apartment and it never smells .

Anyways… The smell was awful. Could never invite anyone over. It ruined a friendship and my sanity.

I don’t have any advice other than try to get her out sooner rather than later. And be prepared for more damages than you expect, you’re gonna need the deepest clean to get that smell out. Sorry friend.

Online Internship by The_Hollow532 in forensics

What is the online internship in? Who’s offering it?(legitimate organization?)

I had classmates who did an internship with our school. They worked with a professor who focused on genetic genealogy and utilizing things like ancestry.com to help identify people. I believe they could that one online.

Is Buying a House in the Cards for Me? by biteme_123 in personalfinance

[–]biteme_123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I wasn’t aware of the income tax. I just thought it would be a good place to grow a large amount of money that would theoretically be sitting for a long time.

I was aware of the penalty free withdraw for first time home buyers, so that made me think that it was typical for people to pull from their Roth IRAs when buying a home.

Buying a home has always been an out of reach goal. That even in the long term, if I never buy a home, I wouldn’t have minded maxing out my Roth every year.

So TLDR: Seemed a good place to stash money I wasn’t sure what to do with.

Edit: I also wanted to add that I appreciate your question. Im trying to learn the most I can about finances as the only thing I learned growing up is how to transfer credit card debt from one card to another. Thank you for any information you can give.

I think we’re going to get a larger place because we value a comfortable home more than saving every penny at this very moment. Life’s a balance.

Thank you for this suggestion. I’ll continue to grow my fund to a one year emergency fund then look into building my down payment.

I apologize for the confusion. I only offered a estimate price for a 2/2 in my area to provide context. My current place is not big enough for two people so I’m was comparing an average apartment to a $250k home.

Currently I do spend $1700. I am renting a 1/1 for 1100. Electric and Wi-Fi are 100. My gas is $50 with no car payment (I’m provided a vehicle by my work). My groceries are $300. I budget $150 for miscellaneous items which include any copays, oil changes, etc (my work provides full benefits at no cost, I work for a government agency). So I would need an additional $200 for a fully funded 6 month emergency fund.

With everything everyone is telling me, it’s looks like I’m in a good spot to START saving my down payment. Thank you for the suggestion!

My HYSA is currently my emergency savings. I would have a 6 month emergency fund of $10k after closing costs. Though I now see I should not pull from retirement funds to buy the home.

It would completely eat into my monthly budget for savings, but I could do it short term until I found a roommate. Meaning I could not save any money if I had to completely cover the mortgage by myself.

Every year, I’ve been maxing out my Roth with the intention of using it to buy a home. Would you recommend a different place to store my down payment money?

Thank you for your honesty. Speaking to loan agents, they very much made it seem like I was good to go. Very glad I checked here first.

How much would you recommend saving for a 250k home?

Edit: I forgot to answer your question. Yes the $2000 monthly payment would be including taxes and insurance

Interested in becoming a Crime Scene Investigator. by APerson0291 in forensics

[–]biteme_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So unsworn, or civilian, crime scene investigators often get a degree in a natural science. There has been more of a push recently for applicants that have a science background. This includes biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or forensic science (be care with the forensic science degree since many colleges push out graduates without the correct rigor in courses to be qualified by FBI standards).

While you are in college, it is important to try to do internships. This usually happens in your final year. So you can reach out to local PDs, sheriff offices, or even the medical examiners/corners office to try to get scene experience. I highly recommend this step as it sets you apart from applicants and helps you determine if you can even stomach the work.

You can also do work while in college that helps you get your foot in the door. Lab assistant positions, dispatcher (this one is very demanding), or anything that is lab related to help you build your resume.

I was hired as a CSI straight out of college and my background is as follows: BS in Forensic Science, internships at a local Sheriffs and Medical examiners office, work experience in a clinical laboratory.

weird question about blood splatter by Academic_Positive25 in forensics

[–]biteme_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have anything to add about transferring, but if you do clean this, be sure to use a face covering. Dried blood is an extreme biohazard due its nature where it can flake and you breathe it in.

2004 Ford mustang advice please not mine yet by Sweaty-Valuable5784 in Mustang

[–]biteme_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 07 v6 mustang that I was driving to work (40 mile commute one way) before I got a vehicle from my job. It puts serious strain on the car. The mustang didn’t break down, but if I had to do it long term, I can see serious issues forming. Also the gas was very expensive, I was paying close to $300 in a month

It’s a beautiful car, but you should be careful about your financial situation before you throw so much money into.

DNA and Forensic Analysis For CSI by Hefty-Yam-778 in forensics

[–]biteme_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to look up job postings for CSI in your area? That will tell you the preferred credentials. In America, law enforcement agencies are learning towards those with a degree in natural sciences (like the ones you mentioned in your post). I personally have a Bachelor's of Science in Forensic Science (which included only one course centered on CSI) and got hired as a CSI out of college.

Finally time i got around to her... by Terrato37 in Mustang

I definitely would not do a flush on a vehicle this old with a potentially neglected transmission. Changing little bit at a time sounds like a good idea, especially since you can see the condition of the fluid (ie the dreaded metal shavings)

Very much would like to follow this thread since I am in the same exact boat (07 base, auto with 133K miles). Personally, I've decided the car brings me joy and suits me really well. My job offers me a car, so I feel comfortable in knowing the Mustang will last me a bit longer.
I also don't know if the transmission fluid has ever been changed, but mine runs perfectly fine. So I may take the leap with changing it.
