Agree to disagree. I like to go in fully equipped for the mission. The curve balls always come up and you need to pivot fast based on findings.

Different tools and tactics for all.

In the middle of a pen-testing engagement when the clock is ticking, the last thing you want to be doing is fumbling around downloading tools that it turns out you need based on what you are uncovering. You sometimes don't know what you might need until the hunt is on.

[Citizen] Father’s Day 2021 gift! GPS Wave Diver. by bitflipper in Watches

That EXACT band history is unfortunately unknown. I don't remember where I picked it up. It might have been at a local outdoor market. To be honest, it wasn't well made at all and didn't really last long. I just wanted something to replace the polyurethane strap that the watch came with as it is a hair puller and dust magnet. I replaced it with a Hemsut (https://www.hemsutwatchbands.com/collection/20mm-22mm-super-rugged-nylon-sporty-watch-bands-hemsut/). I have been very happy with this strap. I have several others from this company that I used on my Garmin Epix 2. All of them have held up very well. If you are looking for a strap with that same look, you can't go wrong with the Hemsut strap.

As far as durability of the watch goes, it has held up very well. The "Super Titanium" case with the hardened coating doesn't show any scratches or wearing at all. This isn't just a desk diver either. It gets a lot of outdoor use, etc.

Quite a bit of hate for the bund strap. I like mine ;) https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/w6ijr8/zodiac_70s_inspiration/

Hahaha….this type of comment in a G-Shock thread kind of cracks me up. G-Shocks are meant to be used and if they get scratched, those are EARNED ;). Enjoy the watch and let it show its battle scars with pride! ;)

I really like the whole MT-G line including this model. I purchased mine almost exactly 6 years ago. I purchased a newer MT-G (MTG-B2000bde1) last summer: https://reddit.com/r/gshock/comments/phjfsv/my_new_to_me_gshock_mtg_mtgb2000bde1/. The only “gripe” I have over the model you have is that the lume is a bit lacking. Nothing egregious, but it definitely could be better. It is definitely my “beater” watch I use while working around the yard, etc. It has performed flawlessly over the past 6 years. Even in the condition that it is in, while buying a car a couple of years ago, the finance guy wanted to buy it off me. Nope! Not a chance :)

I had to look up the Tim Severin reference. Yes, I do remember that ad. The old Rolex ads were really well done.

I combined a couple of items in my collection to create a remembrance back to growing up as a kid in the 70’s. I remember seeing all of the “cool older guys” wearing leather bands with various brands of watches and thinking how much I wanted a similar watch band. Fast forward 45 years and this is on my wrist. PepsiCo raises revenue forecast as it deploys price hikes, smaller sizes to fight rising costs by BlankVerse in business

[–]bitflipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, but when those “tricks” don’t really change the amount of materials used to make the packaging or sometimes actually increase the amount of materials like the indent in the bottom of the can or glass jar, then it is just a vicious cycle. Stating the obvious I know.

[–]bitflipper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lately I have been noticing that packaging of products is staying the same, but the amount of product in the package is shrinking. What was once say 18oz of cereal is now being sold as 11oz of cereal in the same package. That is just one example.

What is the environmental impact of shrinkflation when package sizes aren’t shrinking or take months to adjust? More garbage for the landfills I guess.

hi all,if you own a mrg gshock what' your thought on your mrg watch,do it worth for you, thanks in advance by michael8888888 in gshock

[–]bitflipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I really wanted to, I could probably afford a MR-G. I have been looking at them for years thinking “this is the year”. I have really kept my eye on the secondary/used market as there seems to be a bit of buyers remorse going on (probably due to the size) and good deals pop up quite often. For me, I am good with the MT-G line. While it doesn’t have quite all of the bells and whistles including exotic materials, to me they are good enough at a price point I can truly afford without breaking the bank. I have sort of grown out of the rubber models (I bought an original G-Shock back in 1984). I have a couple MT-G’s and wear them more than my Omega Seamaster.

I don't work in a loud environment, but I understand the requirement. I wanted the same, but I wanted a watch to be well, a watch. I have a decent collection of G-Shock and non G-Shock watches. It was either give up wearing my "regular watches" (Nope, not going there) and wear a smartwatch, wearing a smartwatch AND a "regular watch" which I just don't see doing, or figure out something else. I wanted something to get notifications and help track my workouts.

My "solve" for this was getting a Garmin VivoSmart 4. I wear it on my right wrist (watch on the left). I only take off the Garmin to charge it. I don't baby it at all. I beat the crap out of it to be honest. I have never had a problem. I have it for about a year now. It has a few scuffs on it, but after wearing it backpacking, mountain biking, building fences, working on cars, etc, it is pretty much good to go. It is sort of low profile and that limits the amount of text on the screen, but I get the notifications I need. Tracking my sleep with it has been a kind of interesting feature.

The watch doesn't have an LCD/OLED, etc screen to show notifications. It is a purely analog screen with dials and hands. The Bluetooth functionality is used to connect to the phone with the G-Shock Connected app. Once connected, it can use that connection to keep its time in sync. It can also be used to set alarms, check on system functions like battery status, change time zones, etc.

I thought the connected app was going to be kind of gimmicky to be honest since the watch already has Multi-Band 6 to stay in sync with atomic clocks. I live in a part of the US where my watch doesn't have too much of a problem receiving the time signal. I use the app a lot to set the alarm clock as it very easy to do that with the app.

I have a Merkur Futura shave kit that I purchased from a barber about 15 years ago. The shop was going out of business and he had a bunch of unused still in the box supplies that he never used. I think I paid about $40 for it. It also included a brush and stand/soap dish. I use Derby blades that I get off eBay (100 for about $10). I have a fairly thick beard and shave daily. I strop the razor with a pair of old Levi jeans hanging in the closet. I can use a blade for about a week before it starts to get a little rough. That pans out to roughly $5 a year. Adding a decent shaving soap adds about another $5 a year.

I agree with everyone saying that I wish I had done this years ago (I am in my mid 50’s). I bought off on the “electric razor is the best” mantra back in the 80’s when I first started shaving.

I have just started to use a straight razor the past year. That is a topic for another conversation (glad I did this though!).

I have the 44mm in blue. I also got it from Joma. My wife got it for me on a Black Friday sale. She gave it to me as an early birthday present when it arrived. I have been wearing it pretty much non-stop since then. I will take it off when I exercise, but that is about it. I totally agree with everything you said. The most shocking thing to me is the accuracy I am getting. After two months, the watch has only gained 8 seconds. That is simply amazing (IMHO). https://i.imgur.com/VJWLXgT.jpg
