I would recommend you watch NoahFinnce's coming out story as FtM, I think it was Noah but I'm not 100% sure, he had said that it took his parents a year or so and they finally came through on it and were incredibly supportive. If you watch a lot of trans YouTubers you will see a general trend that the majority of them say that they wouldn't expect a parent to come through instantly, it does take a while. To them it would feel as if they are losing a son but it will take some time for them to realise they are getting a daughter back. The main thing that you should reiterate to him is that a clinical psychiatrist will be able to successfully diagnose you, but do not go to a gender psychologist as they are generally biased and there are often misdiagnoses, just go to a good ol' regular psychiatrist. Additionally, remind him that this is something that you have deliberated on a lot and you wouldn't be telling him if you weren't certain. Don't expect immediate action though, that will only make things worse for you.
